Yep, some teachers can't spell, but sometimes no matter how good you are at spelling/grammar, the kids don't get it.

You know how many times in 2012 that I taught my year 3 class there/their/they're and OMG, even the bright kids did not get it. Very frustrating. Even had my teacher aide teaching the bright ones one on one and some of them still didn't get it.
Thank you. Don't even get me started on trying to teach apostrophes. And your/you're. It sometimes feels like kids don't know how to learn any more, no matter how much effort we put in...

Ooh, I did apostrophes so many times as well because I noticed in a lot of their writing that any word ending in s would have an apostrophe. When I started discussing what apostrophes were and then the apostrophe for possession, my first sentence to the class was, "just because a word ends in s, doesn't mean it needs an apostrophe!" and the kids were all surprised and asked why!

I'm referring to instances where I see mistakes in the teacher's writing. How can that be anyone else's fault?

I am yet to encounter a primary teacher who knows when to use "I" and when to use "me". I think the worst part has to be when they correct my son, yet he's used the correct word.

Wasn't talking about your post, I was referring to the poster who said that if her partner's students came to her after he taught them without being able to spell...

    Sorry, should've quoted.

    I do!

But yes, we are exceptionally rare. I always battle between correcting (and therefore undermining) other teachers and letting kids learn the wrong thing. It's tough!

We noticed a McDonald's sign on the highway in northern NSW. It said "Buses Welcomed". We laughed so much at the thought of the staff rushing out to welcome each bus!

I know I shouldn't post in here because I can't spell and my grammar is horrific.

I was going over my gr6 DD's homework and 7 of 15 spelling words were spelt incorrectly.
