So many primary teachers can't spell!
Actually my year 7 science teacher was forever asking me how to spell. He really didn't have any basic understanding of the English language (not foreign either) so how he got through school baffles me. I also have my year 2 teacher on facebook and the way he types and all the spelling mistakes he makes has forced me to hide him from my timeline otherwise I would scream.

My mother use to get out her red pen and correct all the spelling and grammatical errors in all letters, report cards and the likes that were sent home.

It was pretty common for teachers who taught my generation to have an appauling grasp of the english language. My uncle who failed high school still got accepted into teaching

Oh my gosh. I have a feeling my future students will be murdered often until they learn to spell. Dp is studying to be a primary teacher so if I get any of his ex students and they can't spell, he'll be in big trouble .

I think an English teacher should sit an exam and primary school teachers, but other subjects I don't think matter.

I think it matters for all subjects. Students need to be able to communicate via the written word, and if they don't have a basic grasp of spelling and punctuation then their communication will suffer.
