DS is 6.5 months old and I have been losing massive amounts of hair for the past few weeks. I realised how bad it was seeing photos taken of me at Xmas. It is really starting to thin out and look awful. There is hair everywhere all around our house.
I stopped breastfeeding completely at 4 months and didn't notice any hair loss before this so am wondering if it could be related to this?
Has anyone else experienced major hair loss after having a baby? How long did it last for and did it eventually grow back?

Yes. I lost a lot of hair after having DS, probably around the 4 month mark (I stopped breast feeding at 6 weeks). My hair thinned out quite a lot, but it wasn't noticeable to anyone but me as my hair was so thick from the pregnancy when I didn't lose any at all.

My LO is 6mths and my hair is also falling out...but my hair also got extra think during the pregnancy so I think it is just going back to "normal", seem to be coming out by the handful! I am still b/f full time though. It has happened with each of my 3 pregnancies, I don't feel my hair is thinner than usual though.
I believe it is hormones that cause your hair to grow faster and thicker during pregnancy then fall out as your hormone levels normalise. Maybe if your hair is geting really thin its due to other causes, such as stress, sleep deprivation or poor nutririon?

My hair did grow alot and became really nice and thick and glossy when I was pregnant so I am probably just shedding that now. Although I am suprised at how much I am losing and feel like it looks terrible

ok so by the sounds of it I'm not dying of some hideous disease. thank god. my bub is 4 months old (EBF) and I've just started to notice the hair loss - clumps coming out in the shower and my temples are thinning! It looks just awful but hopefully will not continue until I am completely bald. My hair got thicker with the pregnancy so I understand it's just returning to normal now but I never had balding temples before so I don't get what that's about!

I've just hit the 4 month post-bub mark and I am resurfacing our carpet and all other horizontal surfaces with my hair - SO MUCH is coming out!! It's getting thinner but it did get a little thicker during pregnancy. I spoke to a friend the other day and she said it happened to her for 6 months! OMG! Not sure if Ill have any hair left at this rate. I do feel much better after reading these posts though. Thanks ladies

My hair fell out too, its very normal, and I don't think its related to BF as I only just stopped a week ago. Your hair will start to grow in again, which is almost as bad - my hair is thick and fluffy and you could see all the little bits at the front sticking up. I think the shortest bits are about 5-6cm long, just a bit too short to tie up.

mine was the same. I didn't BF but I noticed when bub was 3 mths old it was coming out at 2 handfuls at a time.. It looks awful, thin, hideous, wirey looking, and my temples look weird too. I know it doesn't make your hair grow back any faster but I am making sure I am using a good shampoo - im using Redkin shampoo for distressed hair and putting a treatment in every shampoo and it's easier to brush when wet, so not much ripping out and have begun eating a good diet of lots of steamed veg, grilled or steamed chicken /fish, eggs, yoghurt, dried apricots, etc, and im taking vitamins and probiotics. last 2 weeks not much has been coming out thank god.
