Default Baby Bonus Q - how much do you get and is it a split payment?

Just a quick question as I am hoping the lovely ladies here can help as Family Assistance is closed today due to the public holiday.

With the Baby Bonus I was under the assumption that it was approx $5k and wasn't means tested. With my last 2 children I got a lump sum.

I filled in the paperwork for my third and I just checked my account and I have received $1041 (titled Mat. Pay.).

Now I assumed that it was a lump sum? Or do they split it up over time? Has anyone else had their baby bonus recently?

    Just curious!

    Thanks in advance

You get it in fortnightly installments, but they back pay you from the time you had bub til the time your payments start.

you get 13 installments over a 6 month period as far as im aware the first one is a little more than the rest to help with getting set up for bubs.

This is copied straight from the FAO website:

Baby Bonus is paid per eligible child in 13 fortnightly instalments. From 1 July 2011, customers eligible to receive Baby Bonus will get a higher first installment of $879.77 and 12 fortnightly installments of approximately $379.77. The higher first installment of Baby Bonus will assist with the upfront costs of having a new child.

So you have received the 1st higher installment plus some of next installment

If it was filled out incorrectly, you would more than likely get paid nothing until you got onto them for not paying, then the error would be picked up!
