We leave ours up until the Epiphany, which is 6 January. But I don't think its bad luck to take it down earlier.
My Mum can't be bothered putting up and taking down the tree so she leaves it up and decorated but it lives in her spare room all year. My cat was stoked to find a giant shiny toy just for him when he stayed there for a few months.

I don't know if it's bad luck. But I hope not! As I want to take mine down tomorrow! Need the room, especially after Christmas, lol.
