Of the Greens? Really? Maybe you need to read the op again.
But the government isn't implementing it's policy is it? It is implementing the policy of the Greens.

And I'm glad you agree that it is the most compassionate.

Father, if you put your personal feelings aside, I'm sure you know that no one that has replied to this thread find people dying at sea funny. In fact, most of the members replying here are usually very vocal about their opinions about human rights, and the regard for life, etc.

These events are an absolute tragedy, and I'm sure that is something we can all agree on.

Yes it most definitely is. I would just hope that the government will do something about it to prevent it happening again and again.

ETA meant to say onshore, not offshore!
Onshore processing (a pull factor) with no deaths is not a realistic policy. So how many deaths, or what sort of death rate, is acceptable for you to continue to support such policies?

They are not dying because of our processing policy. They are dying because the people bringing them are lying to them and are taking no care over their safety. And they are dying because they are so desperate they see little choice but to trust unscrupulous people smugglers.

    Its beyond tragic.

It doesn't matter what the policy is the same will happen anyway.
It's tragic but what else do these people have, waiting 10 years to get out is not really an option. And flying here isn't either because they won't even get a holiday visa to enter the country.
The blame game is on political parties is useless.

Father, you come in with a tragedy and then make it a 'my party is bigger than yours' issue, surely that's completely insensitive to the issue of people drowning?

I think this is a little naive. So are you saying that the the reason that the number of arrivals has increased is because they are lying more effectively???

The current policy is giving these people a product to sell. And the numbers speak for themselves. The 'product' is now being purchased by more and more people. This is dangerous! And will result in more deaths unless this 'product' is removed from the smugglers.

... or we could fly them over for processing, saving them risking their lives.

    Now THAT would be compassion.
