Default Getting to know your parents.

My dad died when I was 13 and I have left it until now to try and find things out about him. I have one relative on his side and mum, that's it. I want to know everything another him, but don't know what to ask. Can anyone give me tips?

So far I've got date and place if birth, parents and grandparents names and dates of birth. Schools. Where he spent his childhood. Hobbies he had. When my parents met and their wedding and divorce dates. Did he travel.

I don't know what else to ask. I regret I have left it this long. I regret not trying to get to know him when he was still alive.

Sorry to hear you lost your Dad at such a young age. I lost my dad last year as a grown up and it is awful, I can't imagine as a child.

Sounds like you are getting a lot o timeline and facts - do you think also you might like to know what he was like (was he outgoing/shy/gregorious/cheeky, etc) and some nice things about what kind of father he was to you? That may help you piece together a picture of your dad?

What sort of friend was he?
    Did he play sport?
What anecdotes best sum him up?
How would he react in certain circumstances - surprised, under pressure, to a practical joke etc
Has he serious, relaxed, a joker, etc?

Good luck with your search, I hope it brings you closer to him (or his memory).,

Favourite song, favourite food, places he visited, what did he want to be when he grew up (obviously as a young boy). Did he have childhood pets?, favourite season of the year...
