No Im fairly sure singles cannot adopt.
Also just to clarify that in QLD the guardianship is awarded to Dept Child Safety, not to the carers so unfortunately its not as secure as an adoption. The children can be moved to a family member or another carer at any time. I think permanent care is different but not very common.

I'm not sure about adult adoption, but I am not sure they would bother - the kids all already call FIL and his wife dad & mum. The oldest is really the only one who comprehends that she has two mums. Come to think of it, the eldest's older sister still lives with her mum... I really don't know how the whole system works, but I'm sure they have their reasons!
