Leanne: go girl, great news! Hope it all goes so well for you.
Micca and Sunny: Thinking of you both. It is so hard but time. Happy birthday Micca for Sunday. I am 44 turning 45 in August but I feel 97 right now.
My bloods cam back today and my HCG is 74,000. Far out brussel sprout!!! Just wish it meant I was cooking a bubby bun in my oven. What I have learnt now that even in a failed preg, hcg can rise and rise and rise for a few weeks.
My FS is available next week but away this week and again week after next so if I do the d&c it will be Monday. I am keen for it to go naturally but that could take a fair bit of time and hey, it isnt like we dont have anything better to spend $2500 on!!!!!
Living int the Hunter Valley you would think at this stage I would resort to a nice bottle of wine but I still function around IVF mindset and practicalities of the illusion that a bub is pending.
Girls, how do you know when enough is enough? I am so tired. I have had 18 months solid without a break from the drugs and treatments. My hubby wants me to take a couple of months off just to get myself in tune but I think of 2 months as forever!!
Chokky, mmm, yep, I ahve been in the Mint Slice bikkies...yummo!!!!

micca- thanks.. my husband is lovely.. unfortunately all of his brothers are in the uk.. good luck with your scan on monday...
fortitude- so happy all is moving smoothly towards your cycle and you will have some great support throughout it..
sunny- thank you so much fo ryour suggestion.. i have made an appointment with dr warren... long wait until the end of june unfortunately.. but on the plus side i managed to get on his cancellation waiting list.. i am lucky number 50! haha .. not holding my breath of an earlier appointment.. i have organised a referral to him also... waiting to speak to my current fs tomorrow morning as my dh is not keen to jump to another fs and wants to have a chat with our current one about what happened with our cycle... i am not cancelling our appointment though... i hope you have a fabulous birthday and some great mum/daughter time!
leanne- i am sorry your news wasn't what you were hoping for... and please never apologise or be concerned for me... i am 100% behind your cycle with you now and hoping all goes well ...we are all allowed to feel upset without tip toeing around others... i spent the afternoon at the hospital with my friend who had a baby 2 days ago.. she was great.. didn't worry or act concerned i might be upset and just handed me her beautiful little boy and let me cuddle him for 2 hours straight..it was just what i needed..

thanks girls for all of your support yesterday.. it was lovely.

    Hi ladies,

I've been reading along, but lying low for a while.

Sunny - I'm really sorry to hear read your news and the frustration of waiting again.

Djshears - Really sorry to hear your news as well.

Leannep - Great news about those eggies - good luck for fertilisation and transfer on Monday.

Petrof - I've also had the disappointment of empty follicles. My first cycle had 3 empties out of 4 follies, second cycle 3 empties out of 5 follies, and third cycle all 3 empties. Fourth cycle was cancelled since did not get any follies.

Micca - Good luck for the upcoming cycle and scans.

    Fortitude - Hi

Hi to everyone else out there.

    AFM:
Got AF after my cancelled cycle, on CD32. Day 2 bloods were: FSH 10 U/L, LH 4 U/L, E2 250 pmol/L, P4 3nmol/L. (Since I've had Day 2 FSH as high as 50 U/L, I was fairly happy with this.)

Scan on Tuesday (CD12) showed no follicles, lining 8mm. Was booked in for a follow up scan this morning. Last night, started spotting, this morning have full on AF. This would have been CD15, so only 14 days from last AF to this one.

Went in for the scan this morning. A surprise was that the scan showed a showed a 16mm follicle that somehow sprung up in the last 4 days! FS said that my body has a mind of its own. It is kind of encouraging that there is a follicle, even if it's all out of sync.

Will be having CD2 blood tests again tomorrow. Will be going natural for a while, FS will keep monitoring me with blood tests and scans. If things are looking good might think about doing a Clomid cycle in a few months.

So I read this a post realised I have no idea what most of it means. Which is bad cause I am starting IVF very soon!
Ladies... Please help me out here Please!!! I want to better understand all the lingo.
I have highlighted the bits I don't understand. Can you tell me what all these things mean? I see levels mentioned- no idea what it means- I don't yet know what 'normal' or 'good' is as a comparison. I imagine I will need to understand this type of thing starting IVF.

Very GREEN with all this IVF adventure.

    Thanks, Fortitude

    Hi ladies,

I hope you don't mind me dropping in, but I wanted to ask for some advice on my MIL's part.

She is 43 and doing IVF aswell. She has been doing it for 3 years and the only success she has had was her first attempt which ended in a loss at 14 weeks, she has not been able to conceive since.

Her clinic won't allow her to do another EPU and she only has 1 frostie left.

Do any of you lovely ladies have any advice that I can pass on to her? She has a few children already, but her younger partner has none and I really want this to happen for him.

    Thanks

chook... great to hear from you... wow what a wacky cycle.. sounds like natural may well work... id try some femura above clomid... most women seem to react better to it with a nicer lining... ask your FS... good to see your FSH is good.. woohoo...

    Fortitude.... ok here goes
CD32,,, cycle day 32... cycle day 1 is first day of your period
AF.. period .... us term = aunt flo
follicles... usually need to be over 18mm for trigger and around 22mm for natural cycle. at the beginning of the cycle they are all small around 10mm
FSH.... hormone responsible for making follies grow.. <10 is good, >10 means your ovaries are beginning to struggle, >20 means menopause is creeping up
E2 = estrogen - one mature follicle produces a level of around 600-800. it is usually around 100 at CD2
P4 = progesterone... usually around 1 on CD2 and rises to 20-30 after ovulation
LH -luteinising hormone... linked into follicle growth.. should be around 1/2 of FSH at cycle day 2.

petrof..Im glad that you had a nice day despite all the bad news.. you are so brave and strong...

DJ.. glad that you emerged from your mint slice haze to chat. You know I would probably think about a break.. 2 cycles take chinese herbs to clense your system, start DHEA, melatonin, inositol if you are not already on them... and just live ivf free ... sometimes the ovaries can get exhausted and just not produce eggs... I would also ask about using femera and a natrural cycle...maybe for 1 or 2 cycles. I know that it is hard with big ben ticking away in quadrophonic sound in your head. Ive just had 4 months of enforced waiting for my cycle to start with all the delayed and cancelled cycles... so lets hope it will make the difference.

sunny... how are the plans going??

leanne so sorry to hear that your fert was not as good...make sure you ask about the sperm report..? it was not as good as prior... I would not worry about transferring 2... your risk of twins is very low..>40yrs it is about 1%
big hugs and good luck tomorrow for your transfer.

well Im home from the gold coast... got one week back to earn some cash and then are back up for 10days for epu and transfer... feeling a little sleep deprived..between DD and the heat of the coast. One thing about being home was that it was so nice to sleep.. snuggled up in the doona.
Im now on 5 injections a night... I feel like a druggie thats for sure... and my first follie scan is on monday...fingers crossed...
Anyway trying to get all the hard physical jobs done this weekend...(just in case) and my huge pile of paperwork..including claims to the medical insurance...
    off to have my cuppa..

Disney... sounds like your MIL needs to go to a clinic that specialises in oldies.. if she is at her despirate end then I would try warren de ambrosis at brisbane..queensland fertility group... I go to him and would really recommend him.. he is very plain speaking and will throw the books at her to get her pregnant.. but all the extra drugs are expensive..Im paying an extra $3000 on drugs above the cycle cost. you can do remote monitoring and then just go up for the egg pick up and transfer.

Thanks micca. I should have mentioned though that she goes to WFC as it is the cheapest place around I believe. She also lives in Sydney.

I gave her all of my 'tips' from my first (and somewhat successful) cycle, but I thought that there may be an extra special tip for an 'oldie' as you say

About 2 weeks before our final appointments prior to commencing IVF.

I think what is doing my head in already is not knowing if I will go through all this and be no better off than I am right now. Part of me is scared that it is all too late and that the baby boat has sailed off without me. Another part is hoping that I somehow manage to leap from the jetty and clamber up onto the boat in the nick of time.

Wondering how people tackle IVF and keep motivated rather than crushed? Any tips or wise words?

    Fortitude
