I have never been involved in this type of thread so I am happy to answer.
I would never leave my baby in the car, awake or asleep. I do think you take a risk doing it and it's not a risk I want to take.
I avoid going to get petrol when I have dd with me for this reason.
I am sorry some people were rude to you about opening this thread there is nothing wrong with starting new ones as there are plenty of new members who would get involved in discussion.

So, by right, you are supposed to drive the car and park it as close to where the pay station is, as possible. It is for safety of the child.
I often have an issue with driving the car away from the pump and parking in front of the station entrance because I am afraid that the station staff mightthink that I am trying to nick off without paying. So, they told me that I could wave at the camera before driving and they will know that I am moving the car and not driving off.
I normally would still carry my baby out of the car because I just don't feel safe for him to stay in the car with all the petrol and fumes in the air.

Use your own judgement, you are the mum
I leave mine in the car. There is no way I am battling taking a 5 and 2 year old into the petrol station with me, it is so much easier to leave them! I have on occasion though filled up with petrol then driven right up to the door at the front, got out and paid

A user on here called Beebs I think, posted the laws for this.
It is not illegal to leave your kids in the car while you pay for fuel......you can not be fined for it.
I have 4...I leave them in the car, not getting them all out to wander through the traffic and hope none of them get hit by a car.
It's my little 5 minutes of sanity walking into that store to pay......also, no-one is going to steal my car with my 4 feral screaming children and it's huge fule guzzling tank- I think it's pretty safe.
My husband works 14-15 hour days- leaving it until we are all together or for him to do would mean I'd probably be walking everywhere.

I leave my 5 in the car. I always have and always will.
Infact most of the time the children pump it and pay for it.

If my six year old is with me I leave them in the car if he isn't then I take them out. That's in my home town where there are only 2 petrol pumps maybe 3-4 meters from the shop if I'm up the coast I take them out every time.
