Default How do I stop the slugs from eating all my strawberries?

Argh! Every time I see a really nice big juicy looking strawberry in my garden I turn it over and there is a slug hole!

I don't want to use any chemicals or poisons as I also have a chocolate lab who likes to steal my strawberries!

My strawberries are in deep pots. Wuld putting a thick layer of vaseline around the pot about half way up help?

    Any other suggestions?

i read just the other day that they don't like sawdust or fine sand, because it gets stuck in their mucous, so maybe a nice thich ring of that around your pots?

Crushed up egg shells are also good because of the texture. And garlic cloves are a great natural ground-dwelling pesticide.

like pp mentioned - saw dust, egg chells or coffee grains all stop slugs.

but it can be hard to surround the plants (although in pots its easier)

also you can buy beer traps that slugs/snails will go into and they get drunk and drown.
