Default Perth - looking for private hospitals + OBGYN suggestions!

    Hey ladies,

I'm currently looking for an OB in Perth - does anyone have any suggestions? (or warnings! lol )

I'm a little further on then most are when finding an OBGYN (i think) - I'm 17 weeks today - but my gynaecologist i've always had + was going to see me through my pregnancy is due for retirement mid way through my pregnancy - So i'm wanting to start a fresh with someone else.

Thankfully I'm fully covered by my insurance + so looking for a private OB

Did anyone find any issues/differences between having a male or female OB?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks heaps, Elle

    Hi Elle,
You are really going to struggle to get into an OB at 17 weeks.
Anna Holmes, Colin Blair, David Minchim are all very good OB's at Murdoch St John of God.
In Seville Grove, I would suggest that Murdoch is your closest & best option. But you really would have to call them to see if they can fit you in. (They are booked out by about 6 weeks pregnant)
There is Brian Molloy who usually doesn't get booked out, but that is because he has the worst bedside manner. So this might be an option if you have tough skin (He is old school- will be rude in telling you that you have put on weight and that it is too much weight!) But I do know 2 women that think he is fantastic despite his krassness.
Good luck!!! I hope you find one that you like!!

Like the previous post I had Dr Mincham at Murdoch & he was fantastic & I would highly recommend him if u can get in. Molloy is definately someone u have to get used to but is great at his job but also costs a lot more than Mincham & Blair.

    Good luck

I had molloy. I thought he was fantastic - if I still had private cover I would use him again. His bedside manner is a little different but it actually made me feel comfortable.

I used Adam gubbay at St johns in Subi. He is excellent. Not sure if you are north or south. I would get the list from you private insurer and go from top to bottom at your preferred hospital as you may find it hard at 17 weeks to find someone. Surely the retiring doc is handing his files on to someone?

Galliers private is no longer. It is now Part of the public hospital and is called the galliers ward.

You can still be admitted as a private patient though. I called and asked a few months ago.

I used Dr ALthea Magee in Joondalup Private. SHe was fantastic- lovely bedside manner and nice and relaxed for me (a stress pot). She is not as well known so she may not be booked out? Depends where you are located.
