    Default Tips/Advice for IVF newbie

i am about to embark on the journey of IVF

on thurs my dr said he is going to write me a referral so that i can attend westmead fertility centre and see DR Howard Smith

I rang to make an appointment but no one answered so i left a message.

I have severe endometriosis to the point where it got into my bowels and had to have it reconstructed in a few places, i have very painful periods where i could go to hospital every month to get relief

ive tried everything to fix the endometriosis and the only thing that helps is the mirena and depo shots at the same time but dont want to be on them long term and i really want to get pregnant

as i said i saw my gyno on thurs gave me my tubal patency u/s results and bloodtest results the blood test results were fine but the u/s revealed that one tube is blocked by a mass maybe a fibroid and the other is fine

my bf was tested his sperm are ok but doesnt produce enuff

gyno wants me to try ivf asap so that i am not in pain that much with my period

i have been trying for a child for over a year could be 2 years have lost track

i cant wait to start a family have always wanted to have kids

    what can i expect?

    any tips or advice?

hi there just popping in to wish you all the luck in the world with your cycle.

On your first appointment (from my own experience, others may be different) you will meet with your specialist, you'll go through your reports, they will explain your cycle treatment, then for me we went to see the Nurse and she reiterated the cycle again to us because FS spoke way too fast haha. We then went down to the blood clinic and had lots of blood tests (even though we had had them all before). DH also got his sperm tested again. I think my fs just wanted to get his own report going starting afresh.

from there, because we were out of towners we had to wait for the next period and bam we began the cycle straight away starting with the pill, then the spray, then the needles and so forth. But your cycle may be different.

One thing I've learnt from IVF is to expect disappointment - cancelled cycles, bad numbers, tears and more tears. But just go with it. It eventually works. I am now pregnant after one cycle and a frozen egg transfer. We were quite lucky. But I did have a cancelled cycle and I did have trouble with eggs not thawing properly. So there is always ups and downs to IVF. Just be careful not to be too hopeful and to take each news as it comes. It does sound really depressing I know. I went in full of beans and excitement. Knowing that it wasn't likely to be a success first go round but I WAS SO VERY HOPEFUL and then it wasn't a success and the coming back down off that train of hope is devastating.

If you join a month thread (like IVF AUGUST) you will find that you will have an enormous amount of support. YOu can't do this on your own and the ladies on here are very experienced and full of wisdom. So once you know when you'll cycle next which may be September have a look for one of those threads.

wishing you all the best for next week.

I hope I haven't scared you. Above all, just remember to take each step of the cycle as it comes, don't plan too far ahead. And be prepared for both the positives and negatives of each step.
