Default for those who get benefits and child support, tax question

Ive been told by someone, that this year if u get child support u do have to do a tax return, instead of the non lodgement of tax return thing.. Ive never had to do that in past, but my friend said she was told as of this year u do.. does anyone know if this is actually the case?
    thank u!

No you do not have to lodge a tax return.
If you are on benefits only you should receive your payment shortly.

Is this to receive the supplements? I was told by centrelink that I could still lodge a non tax statement, but I have to wait until the 28th for them to reconcile it with Child support.

Not sure, but the tax return doesn't ask about child support received, only child support you PAID.

If you receive child support and your taxable income is MORE THAN $18k yes you must do tax- it says so in the back of the taxpack. This is because CSA's Self support figure is $18k ie anything you earn over $18k could potentially reduce what the other party has to pay.

In short if you get paid a part PPS payment because you work a few hours you might have to lodge. If you get PPS only (plus FTBA & B) no you don't need to lodge.
