    There's a book called 'sickened'

About this disease a mother making her child ill

It's horrible but an interesting read.

I read this book - was part of my study for psychology. It's worrying how many people out there become so involved in this "fantasy" cyber-world that it starts to merge with reality for them. On some levels that okay - games such as World of Warcraft are designed for people to create alter-egos which don't necessarily have to mirror their real life. In that kind of platform, different-to-normal persons are accepted and encouraged. Obviously, forums such as BubHub and Facebook are NOT that kind of platform, and I think that this is why it is so shocking - not only the time and effort wasted, but as well as the wasted emotional energy on the person who is making it all up, there is anger, and a feeling of violation, plus sometimes more sympathy for someone who is obviously mentally unstable.

Sadly I have seen this with young people in high school who have made something up online and are then panicking when their web of lies becomes more than they can handle.

I think, like any other mental illness, it cannot be helped. We wouldn't feel angry at somebody who has depression, this is similar.

I'm sure there are some who do it to scam people out of money, but there would also be a lot who have a serious mental disorder.
