Default *vent* still in shock about what happened today!

So today, my sister, dd (12 months) and I went to williamstown (Vic) to have lunch at a cafe.. So we picked one and took a table out the front while a lady dropped us off some menus. All going lovely..

When we sat down I noticed a small sign on the tables stating not to bring external food for other places to eat at their tables (only exepting childrens purée's). I thought yep ok, so no bringing mcdonald or anything, pretty standard!

So then I got a banana out of my bag and started feeding it to dd and then saw the waitress coming over and though yep she's here for our order.... Ah no she wasn't, she told me "I'm sorry madam you will have to put that banana away, you see the sign that it's purée's only and we will not tolerate any other food being consumed here. I laughed and thought she must be joking yeh... Noe she stood there serious!!! I said but my baby doesn't eat purée's, this can't be for real! She got the manager out who repeated that it was their policy and they are sorry and the only solution that they could offer is that I could purchase a banana from their cafe.

You can now insert a few unfriendly words n thoughts here and we left and moved onto another cafe where when I had my banana out for dd. The waitress came over n asked me if I needed a plate or teaspoon to help feed dd. We had a fab lunch there in the end.

Oh my god.. Has anyone ever had this??? Oh feels better to get all that out. Phewww. Lol

Greedy cafe owners. Surely the loss of $1 for a banana is worth the gain of two Mummy friends spending $10-20plus.

Good on you for leaving I would have too.

I used to carry around little tubs of steamed vegie fingers, frozen yoghurt and rice cakes for DS as we did BLW. And I NEVER got challenged

I'd write a long complaint letter and refer to the Human Rights Commission....and copy them in... That would be some nice justice!!

I guess it is fair though. If they sell bananas and fruit at the cafe then they would be losing money by you bringing your own.

They are a business trying to make money, not friends. But you did the right thing moving on and showing them how you felt about it.

They lose more money when people move on and don't come back. Not a good business practice.

Exactly!! They lost on a whole lunch, surely they would peeve to many mums n dads off with enforcing that rule.

Yeh I always have a stash of finger food with the BLW and have never ever been challenged at all! I think that's why I was so shocked bc I couldn't believe that they were actually serious.

Apparently they were definatly their loss.

    Astonishing.

And also, I wonder, illegal? I mean, for kids under a certain age surely there would be regulations about that.

I wonder what they'd say about breastfeeding?
