Default Has anyone stayed in a mother baby unit?

I was talking to my psychologist today and she mentioned staying in a mother baby unit. Has anyone ever stayed in a MBU? What was your experience?

I think i have antenatal/prenatal depression. I have been in a psych ward before and it was terrifying.

Yes!.....and it was totally awesome and I loved it!
I've stayed at The Rosebud one, The Queen Vic and Tweedle (I get around, I know.... )
Tweedle was totally amazing, I was there about 4 months ago for a variety of reasons and it really really really helped.

yup and it was great. we were there for a mix of pnd and dd's sleep issues, and it was great. i was going back on meds while i was there and it was great to be in a safe place while doing it.

I wouldnt hesitate to go again if i needed to.....

How old does the child have to be to go to a MBU? And do they need to be BF if they are say past 12 months to stay with you?

I have worked at The Albert Road Clinic in Melbourne and I think it was pretty amazing...

The councelling staff were wonderful and it was nothing like you would expect a typical physch hospital IYKWIM...

i stayed in the south eastern private which was really good but i think it has now closed. I can imagine you would be feeling anxious given your previous experience. I'm sure if you spoke to the nurses in the unit they wouldn't object to you popping in to have a look, it might pet your mind at ease. They usually have visiting hours, maybe during that time.

I have been googling but havent found much. I guess i will discuss it more with my psychologist on wednesday and the CAT team when they come.

I really dont want to have to go to the psych ward here - i am not suicidal or at risk so i dont think i will have to. BUt i think it might be good to go somewhere specialised in prenatal depression that can help and monitor wit my meds and stuff.
