Default Can a GP refuse to sign a CO form?

Just wondering if they are allowed to? If they do not feel ethically comfortable doing it? In the same way they are allowed to refuse to prescribe the pill, or refer for abortion. Anyone know?

I don't think so. Signing the form doesn't mean they agree with your decision, it just means they have advised you of the risks and benefits relating to vaxxing.

No i don't think they can, but they can find ways to get around it

I had hassles with mine, even to the extent that the Dr blantantly lied and said he has never seen my son.

If a GP didn't sign my form, i wouldn't pay my bill

I guess if they wanted to be really difficult, they could?
I must admit, I havn't had a problem having either of my forms signed (two different G.P's.) once I gave them a quick overview of my understanding of vaccines and my thoughts on the matter, they seemed more than obliged to sign them for me.

    Good question though!

Yeah, if they are strongly catholic or another ethical mindset against contraception. I've met one who refused to prescribe the pill and also one who
never did pap smears due to fear of litigation (but that's another issue). Interesting replies thanks guys!

    Mine did

I asked her to sign a CO form for DS2 regarding the chicken Pox vaccination and she wouldn't sign it. Her reasoning was because she believed that children should be vaccinated. She advised me to see another GP in the practise. I was quite shocked tbh but wasn't too fazed (I went to see her about other things so it wasn't like I booked to see her just for that, was just hoping she would give it to me while I was there)

I did have some issues also actually with DS1. The GP I saw was hopeless, and even then didn't give me the right form. I had to see his usual GP another time to get it and she was fine about the whole thing.

How sucky! I'd think that would be a reason for her to sign it so she can say "well, I warned you!" LOL

This is all they are signing to say:

I declare that: I have explained the benefits and risks associated with immunisation to the parent or guardian of the child named, and have informed him/her of the potential dangers if a child is not immunised.
The silly thing is, most GP's won't discuss the risks with you, only the benefits.

that kind of thing just makes me cry.

i think they should be fired

(but then, i think the pill is one of the bestest inventions to date up there with the wheel - probably ahead of the wheel actually )
