Default Lesbian couple thinking about doing IVF

My partern and i are looking to start a family next year. We live in Newcastle NSW, and we are wanting to do IVF. We want to use her egg and donor sperm and put the embryo back into me so i have her baby as such.

We dont know exactly how to go about it all, and where to go. I was wondering if anyone can tell us about the process, we were thinking of using Hunter IVF which is part of Sydney IVF, or if there is any lesbians that have had ivf on here, we would love to hear from you.

    Hi Jessandmeltrappel.
Welcome we are a same sex couples who have been lucky enough to conceive our DD through IUI 7years ago and after many tries with no success other then an early miscarriage we moved on to IVF at the end of last year. I am now 19weeks pregnant with triplets. We used Westmead Fertility for our cycle of IVF.
I can't really help with the Ivf process with using your partners egg as we only used donor sperm. There are plenty of lovely ladies around who have had donor embryos put back so hopefully one will be around soon to give some insight into the process.

I will be having our 3 bubbas in John Hunter Hospital as our local hospital is unable to deliver here.
I hope once you start your journey it is a very quick one and you will be holding a little bundle in your arms in no time.

    Hi!

My DH and I need to use donor sperm to have children and we are going through SIVF in Newcastle. They will only use sperm from a known donor, not too sure about HIVF.

We firstly had a counselling session and the counsellor gave us some ideas on how to go about looking for a donor.

The other choice you have is going through Fertlity First in Sydney who have a sperm bank of sorts through an American company. I know of a couple of same sex couples who have gone through them and are now pregnant.

Goodluck with your journey and I hope you get to have a baby very soon!

A friend of mine looked into that exact same situation about two years ago and from memory the medicare rebates for doing it that way . . . (with partners egg and donor sperm) were a LOT less than if the eggs of the partner carrying the baby were used. Anyway, i'm not 100% sure about that but just have a careful look into the rebates and costs i guess!

Also. . . bare in mind that at both Sydney IVF Newcastle and Hunter IVF you'll have to recruit your own sperm donor.

    Good luck with your journey!

    Hi jessandmeltrappel

I am currently doing IVF but I am using my own eggs not my partners (she will have her turn next!!) so I can help with some of your questions.

I am not sure what stage you are up to but my biggest advice is get started. It took me over 2 years to get to my first stim cylce. I had to recruit donor, we waited just over 8 months for counselling process and sperm to be cleared, inseminated over a 4 month period (with less than 20% of falling pregnant) to then be considered infertile so I could access IVF and get the medicare rebate. A very long process. And then as many can tell you on here, IVF can be a very long process as well.

It feels good to get started, although I am still waiting for the elusive BFP.

    All the best.

    Hi,
Yes you can use your partners eggs in you with donor sperm. It does costs abit more but if that is what you two have decided, go for it.
I would go thru Fertility First in Hurstville. They have donor sperm and are great with same sex couples.
    Goodluck with your journey.

    Hi,
I'm really sorry but I can't help with your questions -but just wanted to say we went through IVF at SIVF and found them to be great... but I agree with Ivygreen - get a referral (I needed one to see the specialist - so just thought everyone would?) and get started - write down your questions for them and go for it.. good luck!

Bubba2in2011 - WOW - good luck with the triplets!! Amazing! I will have to check back on here to hear your good news... 3 babies in one - 3 times the fun!

I do not recommend FertilityFirst,We have been working with her team for a few years now makeing our famliy, never had a problem, but now 5 years later they have changed and are very unimpressed .We already have two boys and would like #3 but our donor has been treated so badly he (and his partner) now has stated he will not help us through a clinic. The with new counselor is no help and the rest of the staff and team seem to be follow her lead not Anne' s
