An amazing story! Kangaroo care (skin to skin contact) is a remarkable thing and I've seen some pretty special things happen with babies who are able to do this with their mum/dad....nothing as amazing as this story though. We certainly see decreased lengths of stay in NICU for babies who get to do this and usually more stable temperatures, heartrate and respiratory rates.
It is bizarre that the dr would not come back and check on the baby after it started to move. At my hospital the midwife would ring the emergency buzzer or call a code and they would have immediate help.
