Elevated prolactin and PCOS
Hi Wantbub1,
It is not uncommon for prolactin levels to be elevated with PCOS. You should probably repeat the prolactin level in the morning , when it is at its lowest, and also do a macroprolactin test as well. If the prolactin is significantly elevated, you may have a benign pituitary microprolactinoma which is producing prolactin, and making it difficult to ovulate. You can only diagnose this with a MRI of the pituitary fossa. If this were the case, treatment with a drug called "bromocriptine" or "cabergoline" will correct the problem in most cases. It is more likely however that the elevation in your prolactin level is due to your PCOS. Some drugs can also cause a similar elevation, After 9 years to TTC you need to get started on some significant fertility treatment ASAP. Cheers, DR Sonya
