DS has a slat bed and it has a little lip on it so the slats sit inside the edge of the bed (IYKWIM) we have a Target bed rail (it is supposed to fold out but because of the lip it just jams in there ) but it does the job. (I can't use the strap bit that goes to the other side of the mattress either cause of the design of the bed but it stays put fine!

we have the baby dan bedrail on DD's king single slat bed and it fits perfectly and is very functional. the rail clicks into the part that goes under the mattress so you can click it on and off for ease when chaning the bedsheets.
    It is very sturdy too.

I have just brought a really cool one (sorry no idea of the brand but got it from a baby store). it is a fitted sheet that has a blow up roll that fits into a pocket on both sides of the sheet. So it fits any standard size bed (different sizes for different sized beds obviously) and just goes on as a fitted sheet. Is great as we travel a bit so just deflate the tubes and pack it like a sheet into the bag!!! Sorry haven't got more info but most baby stores should know about them I would think... DS can climb out of it but has never fallen out of it and he is a little worm!!!
