Default Do you judge people on their cooking?

Say for example if you go to SIL or MIL house for a meal do you size yourself up against them?

    What?

No, I'm happy to enjoy a meal cooked by someone else. One of the things I love about cooking is experimenting with flavours and imagining what they are going to be like but when someone else cooks it always (well usually) tastes great because it is a surprise for your tastebuds, you don't get to anticipate the flavours in advance. if someone is really good then it's just a delightful experience, and cheaper than a meal out!

Dh can't cook to save himself but I do love when he makes me a sandwich! Because it doesn't taste like a sandwich I would have made myself!

not in the sense that i'm judgemental about it.

but yeah, i will totally consider whether i like it, what i liked it, whether the stuff works together. all those kinds of things.

just because its 'judging' doesn't mean its negative

Yup, sure do. Some people I know are hopeless and some are brilliant, I think I'm somewhere in the middle. Others often compliment me on my cooking/baking and request certain dishes by me for events, but I've stuffed up a few times too (like the last Dahl I made was terrible).

No, I don't think anyone's food tastes the same so it's hard to compare. I think everyone has their own style.

Not in a judgemental way as other PP have said. But because food and cooking and eating and trying new things and talking about food and just about everything else to do with food is so central to our family and our lives, I am always looking at what others cook, getting ideas, thinking about how I could do it etc etc.
