Default Preschool or kindy - are they the same?

I am very confused at the moment. We are moving to a new area (Port Stephens area) and I need to get my 3 year old into some sort of school environment. He will be 4 in early July.
Should I be looking at Kindergarten or Preschool? Or are they the same thing?

You would be looking at pre-school or long day care.....There are quiet a few around the Bay area...Karingal Pre school, Nelson Bay pre school, ABC long day care Nelson bay, Gumnuts long day care and pre-school, salamander Bay longday care..

What we class as Kindy is when kids start formal education, first year is called kindergarten!

Hi, yep definately preschools at that age, as a pp said there are a few around port stephens, for me personally the pick of those is Karingal but you will probably find it hard to get a place there. If you are going to be new to the area you should visit Gan Gan Family Centre at Anna Bay public School, they run programs and workshops there which can help you settle in and met mums. Port Stephens Council also runs a program which is called Growing Spaces, they have free play sessions in the park on Fridays, the location does change each term or so, you can ring them on 49871344 to find out more, it's a great way to meet more mums and for your child to socialise.
