Default "THREATENED MISCARRIAGE" ?? someone please help!

    Hi ladies,

After a HUGE scare today, with a red discharge (tmi sorry) and really really bad pain, also dizzyness and blacking out i went to the hospital.

I had a scan done, which showed bubs ok, 11 weeks, 5 days and with a healthy heartbeat.
They classed it as a threatened miscarriage. The doctor didnt really exlplain much to me, and i dont have any kids, nor do i no much about this stuff, so if someone can shed some light with any info or advice that would be great.

She has ordered two days of rest, but with an appoitment with maternity outpaients tomoz.
I also have a small amount of blood in my urine.

I am really worried that this bubs wont b sticky i have had previous miscarrige and ectopic. Any ressuring thoughts would b great gals!

I would tell you to rest up and take it easy but having been in your shoes before I know how hard that is
Bleeding in pregnancy with no known cause is pretty common actually and I think they often use the term "threatened miscarriage" because they do not know what else to put it under iykwim? I guess only time will tell, at this stage there is not alot they can do IF you were to miscarry... but the best thing you can do right now is stay positive and look after yourself Any more bleeding and I'd go get checked out again just to be sure. As for the urine, did they check for a UTI?

    Don't panic.
I am 31 weeks pregnant and i had a threatened miscarriage at about 6 weeks - lots of bleeding. The term is scary but it doesn't mean you will m/c it is just their way of saying you have had miscarriage symptoms but have not miscarried.
The fact that you have a healthy heartbeat at 11 weeks pregnant is an excellent sign
Take it easy and rest, things will most likely be fine.

I had a threatened miscarriage this time last year.

I bled for about 2 hours & than it stopped. I had nothing more, no pain, no dizzyness, no blackouts.
As PP said, it doesnt mean you will M/C its just the way of saying you had the symptoms but it didnt happen.

I now have 8 month old Triplets.

I agree, I think it is a very scary term loosely used for unexplained bleeding. I had bleeding at 6 weeks when I was pregnant, and they labelled it a threatened miscarriage. It stressed me out a lot, and the stress probably didn't help the situation.

On a more positive note, the heartbeat has been found and you are almost out of the 1st trimester. The chances of a mc occurring reduces by 95% when a heartbeat has been located, and even moreso once the first 12 weeks has passed. Just keep that in mind.

I hope it all goes well

I had light and heavy bleeding (bright red) continuously from 10 weeks to 15 weeks when I was pregnant with DS1. At one point, I thought my waters had broken because the bleeding was that heavy.

Anyways... after a thousand and one admissions to ED and many, many ultrasounds... they docs could never find a source of my bleeding.

It was a very scary time for me... but I thought I'd reassure you that my baby from that pregnancy is now a healthy (nearly) 3yo bundle of energy (and driving me completely insane right at this very minute... do you want him?? ).

threatened miscarriage is a term used to describe any bleeding during pregnancy. i had a large bleed at 10 wks and went thru same rigmorol and everything was fine! at 10 wks if everything looks great on US, MC chance is less than 3% i think.

one of my close friends had the same thing happen at 7 weeks & it really sounded like all the symptoms of a miscarriage. She had heavy bleeding & cramping for a few days - but everything was fine & now she has a beautiful baby girl 100% healthy. The doctors kept checking her HCG & her count kept going up etc.

So keep positive - my doctor told me if there is a heartbeat at 11 weeks you have a 95.5% chance of having the baby - so the odds are with you.

    Wishing you the best.

I had bleeding on and off for the first 15 weeks of this pregnancy. I had cramping with it also and ended up in hospital a couple of times. As others have said... it's just a term they use when there is unexplained bleeding. And as I've come to understand, bleeding during pregnancy is more common than a lot of people realise!

Don't stress to much (much easier said then done of course).

I am currently 18weeks pregnant and I was diagnosed with "threatened miscarriage" when I was about 6ish weeks I'd say.

I have had bleeding all the way through so far and have had many scans and so far everything is good, somepeople just bleed.

The term is really used in situations when there are signs of miscarriage but its not necessarily going to happen just "threatened" hence the rest the dr suggested etc.

Keep us updated, I'm sure all will be ok, it was probably bub just pushing his or her way further into your uterus and getting comfy for the next few months and maybe popped a blood vessel or something
