Default Low AMH = 4 and IVF

My husband (36yrs) and I (36yrs) have recently been advised, after 9 months of numerous tests and results looking reasonably hopeful, that my AMH reading is 4 and is the reason that we have been unsuccesful in concieving for 3 years. We are about to commnce IVF (Atagonist) in 3 weeks time. I was wondering if anyone else had recieved a low AMH result and been successful through IVF.

    Hi Bouyant,

Im in the same boat as you - AMH of 4.5 found a few months ago. Other than that, all tests good (although I am having a lap to check for endo soon). I haven't yet gone down the IVF path.

Ive been reading a lot about "diminished ovarian reserve". It seems that AMH isnt tested that much here in Aus, so lots of ppl have no idea their ovarian reserve is low until their FSH goes up. I guess we are lucky to have had it done (although results not great) as at least we have the info now.

But in the UK it seems they test it a lot. From going on a forum there (pls PM me if you want details/links) there are quite a few ppl with low AMH who are preg after IVF. Including one girl with an AMH of less than 2 who is now past 20 weeks with twins! So it can happen.

Im hearing a lot about DHEA - one centre in the US is using it on all ppl with low AMH , with good results. They recently published preliminary research that it can increase AMH by something like 20%. Which sounds good to me! Perhaps s/thing to think about if your first cycle isn't successful (although it will be).

Hope to hear some success stories from other ladies.

    hi

i did have my amh tested recently at my new FS request but did not actually find the result cos i got a bfp ..i assumed it was low as my fsh was getting high sometimes and i was always a poor responder...i have read a lot of ppl do get pg with such levels...you wont tell how u respond til u start...i have read some stuff as well about some doctors thinhking its not the be and end all anyway.....but DHEA is definately worth a go if you find your results are poor....its definately not over for you!!!! good luck.

Hi Bouyant - just wondered what your FS had to say about it, if you've seen him/her yet?

hi there, i have started my first cycle of IVF Antagonist. All ok so far with blood test and ultrasound. Waiting to see if egg collection will take place on Friday. Haven't met with my FS as yet to discuss the low level AMH as yet. Will keep you posted.

Thought I'd provide an update on our 1st IVF cycle. We were able to retireve 2 eggs. Both were able to be fertilised. 1 egg succesfully made it through to blastocyst transfer stage. Unfortunately we found out today that we are not pregnant. However we have progressed much further that we had thought based upon the information originally presented to us. We will definitely try a 2nd round early in the new year.

Hi Bouyant - so sorry to hear of your BFN. But great news that your response was pretty good and one even made it to blast.

I have everything crossed that after some relaxation over Xmas your next cycle will bring that BFP.

Would you mind explaining what drugs/dosages you took, as we will prob be starting IVF early next year and Id love to hear about what protocol worked for you.

    TIA!

I really need to learn the IVF TLA's!! I was on Gonal F 262.5 Units, Cetratide 20 units and Pregnyl 20 units throughout the cycle. To be honest I didn't suffer with too many side effects apart from feeling bloated and a dull head. Good luck for the New Year!!
