Default Help with my 2nd IUI

    Hey There,

I was hoping that someone out there has been in the same situation as me and can help me get thru it. Here is my situation.

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7-10 years ago. They told me not to worry about it until I am trying for a baby. So 2.5 years ago we decided to start a family. I went to the docs to get all the tests done etc. For the 1st year the dr did nothing really to help. Just kept telling me to keep trying. I charted every month, bought a million ovulation tests and proably 2 million PG tests. I still had no luck at all trying to pin point when i actually ovulated. After all my research I suspected that I didnt ovulate due to the PCOS

After a year the GP referred me to a specialist, who then did all the same tests as the GP but took longer as I had months to wait to see her. Then after she had came to the same conclusion she finally sent me to a professor at Monash IVF. Although it took me 3-5 months to get in to see her I was relived as I felt like I was on the right track now.

I had a laproscopy and a salene test. They found nothing wrong, there are no tearing in my uterus and my tubes were clear. So I am now classed as unexpected infertility......Frustrating!!

My Dr. then sent me to do 3 cycles of IUI, said if I dont get PG in the 3 cycles I wont get PG that way and its straight to IVF.

My 1st IUI, I am injecting puregon everynight. I was injected myself for over 26 days and still had no follicles. I had to go back every 2 days for a scan and blood tests. I started getting really depressed, frustrated and angry. They cancelled this treatment as I was having no luck.

My 2nd IUI, I was injecting for about 15-20 days and had 1 follicle. Had my trigger and the AI 2 days after. PG test was negative.

I have had a month off and went into today to start my new cycle. I start my 1st injection tonight.

So I guess my question is this......has anyone been in the same situtation with PCOS etc. Or does anyone have any advise on how to help my 2nd cycle? I am willing to do anything that will help me get that positive result that we are all searching for!

Thanks for taking the time to read my thread and thanks to anyone in advnace for any suggestions!

Oh I know how you feel I did 5 straight cycles of iui with out success, I was diagnoised with pcos, but am technically cleared of that now and had "unknown infertility"
our FS always said to BD as much as we could in the 3 days following AI
no bd for 3 days before
do they increase your puregon doesage according to your bloods?
My first iui cycle was a guessing game I started on 50mgs then went up to 75 than to 100 to get one folicle
but the next one we started at 100 to have a shorted cycle and got larger folicles

    HI Lisamd,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

I am wondering how you have been cleared of PCOS? I was informed that its a syndrome for life??

Did you have any success after your 5th cycle?

We tried to BD the night of the AI, but the nurse i had was such a hack and couldnt find the opening of my uterus and really hurt me inside so i physically couldnt not bd. After all the tests etc i have had done over the last 3 years she is the only person who can not find my uterus!

    My 1st cycle i started on 50mgs too, then 75, 100, 125, 150, 175. Then it was cancelled
My 2nd cycle I started on 100mgs then went up to 150 after a week or so.
This cycle I am starting on 150mgs for the next 7 days.

Yes pcos is for life I would still say I have it
they cleared me because I was having a regular af cycle and on ultrasound my ovaries appeared normal

Some of my nurses had trouble getting to my cervix, it's tilted. The first ai was bad she tried 3 differant specdrums. Then found the tilt.
did you tell her how much pain you had, as you shouldn't have more than a normal pap test just it's a bit longer??

No I never fell pregnant through iui, It evenually happened itself. But we later discovered I had cancer while I was doing iui so I contribute the fail iuis to cancer

I hope this cycle is the one for you

My DR. says I have PCO with out the syndrome as i too have a regular af cycle. The only symptom i have are the cysts.

My nurse was a hack. She used the biggest specdrums she could find. She was pushing and shoving, omg it was so painful. I told her that it was killing me, she just kept saying it will be over soon. My hubby almost fainted due to the fact of how much pain i was in.... She tried 3 times and i said I cant do it anymore, she then had to go find a dr to do it. He did it with in 1 minute!!
So the AI should have taken 20 mins I was in there for an hour and a half....i felt sorry for all the ladies in the waiting area!

I am sorry to hear about the cancer. Is everything ok now?

Lisa MD I hope things go very well for you. Im sorry to hear that you had such a rough time. Cancer is a rough thing to go through.

Tiggerlilly Im sorry to hear that the nurse hurt you. Next time ask for another nurse. I know its easier said then done.

I had a painful painful hysterosalopingogram (HSG for short). They couldnt find my cervix but I sure knew it when they did. As the small tubing went in it hurt like hell!!!! The doctor kept saying only a little more further till we have it in place. They were supposed to dilate it to 5mm but I could only stand 2mm.

They then had to find the radiologist, which took sometime. I was in the excuitiating pain for 1/2hour before they found the radiologist. During the scan it felt like very very bad period pain.

I can't say I experienced the same pain as you. But I can say I also experienced something in the way of pain. So big big big to you.

Im just hoping the IUI isn't as painful as the HSG. Everyone tells me it isn't but here you are in pain.

All I can say is ask for a different nurse this time. You are well within your right to ask for another nurse. I should know I am a nurse.

Its hard and your vunerable at the time, but please speak out.

LisaMD, I am glad to hear that you are in remission! It must have been a hard time for you and your family. You are obviously a very strong person!

Wishing4kids, Can i ask what a HSG? What was the purpose of it?

My DH said I should ask for another nurse, but honestly I dont think I can. I have to see them 2 times a week and I am worried that if she is there it might be awkward. Its a hard time already, i dont want to make it any harder......although I would love to. I will say something to her tho if she is the one to do my AI this time. If I feel any pain I will call for a dr. thats for sure!

What you went thru sounds awfully painful. My pain wasnt inside as such, the pain was only where the specdrum was, from her pushing and pulling etc.....ouchie!

So how long have you been trying??

    hello Tigerlilly,

A HSG is to see if your fallopian tubes are clear or blocked. Mine were clear as I knew they were. It is a test to see if IUI would work or not work in the case of blocked tubes. In the case of blocked tubes they would move straight to IVF.

I have been pregnant before to a previous partner. It is my DH that is the key in all this that is a little broken. His sperm can't swim at all.

We had been trying to concieve since December 07. I kept saying to DH after 4 months to go get tested. He kept saying lets wait till next month. Lets wait another month, lets wait another month. I finally dug my heels in Nov 08 and told him to go get tested or he wouldnt get intimacy. He finally did to find out that he couldnt father children. I know it must have been confronting for him to have a test that may tell him he couldnt father children. But I was getting frustrated knowing it was him and not me.

Nov 08 we saw Dr Tillee in Westmead IVF expecting to get started soon. We did a few more tests and found out in March 08 when we joined the waiting list for donor sperm that there is a severe shortage. It will be March 2010 at the earliest and the latest September 2010 before we will be called from Westmead IVF Australia to start our journey.

Because of the new laws regarding sperm donors there has been a huge down turn in guys willing to donate.

I have been told about another clinic that uses overseas donor sperm. I can start in roughly Nov so Im currently awaiting my roster to come out before I book in. I really really dont want to have to wait anymore. My Bio-clock is ticking loudly at aged 36yrs.

It makes me wish things were different. I wish I had kept the pregnancy I would at least have had a 5yr old now. But I had an xray and 2 MRI's and didnt know I was pg. I also took the morning after pill. I dont think things would have turned out well.

So now I find myself awaiting donor sperm to get pregnant. I never thought I would find myself on this site. But here I am.

    Wishing4kids.
