Default Have you ever witnessed abuse at your child's weekend sport matches?

I heard on the radio today a mother who gets her daughter (I think 12 or 13 years old) to meditate for an hour before playing sport to visualise herself winning

And a coach who refused to play the "weakest" team member because all he was doing to play to win

The radio announcer was also talking about abusive parents who walk up and down yelling the the ref/umpire, making fun of other kids and even having brawls with other parents

Have you ever experienced anything liek this at your child's sports field? Or are you one of the vocal parents

I was a competitive Gymnast for 13 years and my coaches are now banned as they were so cruel! The made us continue practicing with dislocated or broken bones and used to chase us around with alcohol to put on the ripped skin on our hands, they would literally hold us down

Also my Dad used to coach A grade hockey but quit because he was sick of all the abuse he got from the Parents!

I have started taking DS to toddler football classes because he really enjoys it but a lot of Dads turn up and start yelling at their kids "Use your feet", I mean they are all around 18-24 months old! Most of them are happy to go sit in the net!

Yes I have and the kids are 4!!

My son plays Junior Soccer and one little boys father comes every week just to yell at him, it is so sad I really feel for the boy.

What the idiot father doesn't realise is that instead of turning the kid into the next Beckham, he will probably be turned off all sport for life!

It really makes it uncomfortable for the other parents and the other kids who hear it! Makes me wonder what the poor boy gets at home..

Not abuse but DEF vocal parents!!!

And not at weekend matches but at School and Inter-School Sports Carnivals.

To be completely honest I saw a WHOLE different side of some of the parents whose kids are in my class and their vocal demands intimidated and scared me! ESPESH since I teach in the early years!

Not so much at club level I haven't, just the odd one here and there but definately at District, then Regional and now State level. I know a parent who has been banned from any match his son plays in. From our experience it seems to be from parents who played in the sports themselves at similiar levels in their youth and want the same for their sons. At State level, it is a real eye opener, believe me!!

My daughter also plays competitive sport but we haven't seen anything like that (yet lol!!).

    Not on a weekend sports.

My primary school aged daughter and her IN SCHOOL dance group were told they were "dancing like retards" by the schools dance teacher.

Teacher was trying to push them to state level.
