Default Voice change after tonsil/adnoid removal?

    Hi

Interested to know, for those whose children have had their tonsils and/or adnoids removed, did your child experience a significant change in their voice following the removal?

If so, how long did it last for, or do you find it is it an on-going/permanent voice change?

    Thanks heaps

    oh yeah! I remember that!

    DD sounded so funny afterwards
I don't remember that it went back or not.. honestly, I probably just got used to it. But I do remember right after her op (tonsils and adenoids too) that she did sound weird.

I didnt really notice a change in my DDs tone of voice but her speech improved ten fold. Certain words that had not been pronounced correctly prior were now perfectly pronounced. Poor baby hadnt been able to hear due to the chronic infection build up in her inner ear after every bout of adenoiditis/tonsillitis.

Thanks for the replies. My friend's son had his out approx 7 weeks ago. His voice has changed really significantly....extremely high-pitched, and sometimes quite nasaly (I suppose you could describe it to be a bit like the Nanny) and he's become difficult to understand at times....and my friend is now becoming quite anxious that it may not return to how it was pre-surgery.

She is going to make an appointment with the specialist who did the op. They mentioned possibly doing an x-ray to check things over.

Thanks for the replies so far...and if anyone else has any we'd love to hear from you too!

I can only go on myself, but prior to having my Tonsils and adenoids out as a child I had a very 'gravelly' voice kinda like Rod Stewart's. Once they were removed my voice changed initially to a higher pitch, but once things settled down my voice lost the gravel sound I had prior to the Op and has remained 'normal' ever since.
