Default NT Scan - bulked billed for over 35's

Has anyone heard of this rule? and can anyone point me to any documentation online which supports it.

Im having my NT this week and last pregnancy they were all bulk billed. Now a lot of places don't even do the scan? (why?) and are now charging.

I heard somewhere that they are charging as it is not a necessary scan but if you are recommeded it because of age it can be bulk billed.

    anyone know anything

Its needs to be written on your referal that it is to be bulk billed other wise you will be charged for it.

Its not considered a necisary (spl) scan/blood test anymore.

Yes your GP needs to note "advanced maternal age" on the referral. Those are the magic words apparently for bulk-billing.

Mine did for me, even though I was only 34 at the time.

I had that written on my referral at the age of 42 & still had to pay for it.

I believe some places bulk bill, others don't & it will only be bulk billed if your doctor sends you to a place that bulk bills & they tick "bulk bill" on the referral.

I had mine done at a specialist OB's office who had the best scanning equipment in my area & they didn't bulk bill for anything. I also had to pay for the amnio & the scan done on that day.

I did have two bulk billed scans during the pregnancy - one that was the standard one that you get free during the pregnancy & that was done at my normal OB's office. The other was much earlier on when I'd had spotting & that was done at a standard scanning place.
