    Default Breastfeeding and Fertility

    Hi,

I am currently mother to a lovely 10 month old, he is breastfed on demand several times a day. I would love to have another little one and would like to start soon as i would like them to be close together and I am 33. I intend to long term breast feed untill he decides to give it up .I am also yet to mensturate. How can i improve my chances of getting pregnant WHILE breastfeeding?

    Hi p3nguin,

When you are predominantly breastfeeding it can be difficult to re-establish your menstrual cycle and regular ovulation patterns.

It’s wonderful you are enjoying the close connection with your child and would like to continue to breastfeed indefinitely. As he starts to eat more solids and breastfeed for ‘comfort’ it will be easier for your body to re-establish a cycle and you start to time your attempts for conception.

Each individual is very different. Some women start to menstruate despite full time breastfeeding after 3 months post delivery, others don’t menstruate at all (although they can ovulate) for months or sometimes years afterwards...

If you feel you’d like to speed up the process right now, you could try herbal medicines, prescribed from an experienced herbalist or naturopath to help re-balance your hormones if you feel you need some help in this area. Otherwise you could wait another few months and see how your patterns re-establish themselves.

    I hope this helps!
