    Really?
We have the hipod senator for DS, he hasn't used it yet, we bought while it was on sale earlier this year... Would we not be able to use this after the new laws come in? It has an inbulit 5 point seatbelt, then converts later with a H harness and anti submarine clip...

The other thread got me thinking that perhaps it's time to put DS in a booster seat. He's about 14kg, which is the lower limit for boosters, but he's at the top of the charts for height and is really starting to get too tall in the shoulders for the convertible car seat.

What are the best shops to get them in?

    Thanks

With the new laws taking in effect in November (in VIC) its best for you to put him in a convertible booster chair. It says that kids under 4 should have a built in restraint ... I think there are a couple of seats around that will cater to tall kids... check out the popular SnS Maxi Rider AHR (my friend uses it for her DD and she is always in the top 90% percentile in height) and there is the Infa Secure Trek 8 (cheaper than SnS Maxi Rider but I think will do the same thing).
I think it might be best for you to bring your DS in to the shops and get him to sit on one of the convertible booster chair...That's what we did for DS when we bought his Infa Vario Max booster chair (now we have to buy another car seat with built in harness!!!)

My daughter went into the Maxi Rider (Safe and Sound) at just over 2 , she was 14kgs. I got it online through Babyzone Direct.
The Maxi Rider sells for $298.99 and the Maxi Rider AHR sells for $369.00. It cost me about $25.00 in postage, I'm in Brissie. I saved about $40 buying it through BZD than if I got from a baby shop.

It depends on which state you are in, if the laws are in effect or not. There is also the SNS Explorer and I think a few others that have the inbuilt 5-pt harness.

To answer the OP....DS has just turned 2, and is in the maxi - he is 16kg. He was in the SNS platnium until a few weeks ago when my twins were born, and that is the only reason he moved up, I wasn't buying another platnium when he only had 2kg left in the weight rating.

I think they are fine to stay in the convertible seat until their ears are at the top level of the carseat.

Ok well here in QLD when I went to buy my dd a booster seat at a baby shop the lady there said that she'd just been visited by a representative with all the new info on the law and told her that up until about 5 years of age...the maxi rider is the only booster seat that is legal at this point in time.
