    No I've never had one.

Homestly though I was pretty reckless for a while there in my 20's when I was single I'm amazed I never got pregnant as I never took the pill!

My thought is that I would never have an abortion and never would have when I was younger either, but I've never been in that situation so it's impossible to say.

    Death rates are-
    <8 weeks gestation 1:100,000
    20> weeks gestation 8.9:100,000
    v's
    Live births 12.7:100,000

eta these are american rates, I'm looking into Aus ones now.

Our maternal death rate for live births is 8:100,000 for abortions it's <1:100,000 there doesn't seem to be any distinction between trimesters in what I have read.

I have, I caught rubella in my first pregnancy in the first month. It was strongly recommended that I have a termination by more than one doctor, I was shown the stats and when I saw them, I knew that I wouldn't be able to cope if I was one of the 90%. I was truly heartbroken for years. But I look back now, and I realise it was the right decision for me.

If I was to fall pregnant again now I would. My body wouldn't cope, my immune system does not work properly, I have had infections after every birth, the last I had a UTI that turned to sepsis and a uterus infection - which was my 3rd. I get infections after every single sniffly virus and any procedure I have. I am currently one antibiotics, my 9th course in 6 weeks, and I am becoming immune to antibiotics because I am on them so much. It just isn't worth the risk health wise. Having said that, I'd probably end up getting an infection from the procedure anyway.

But I am absolutely 100% pro choice. I wasn't always. I used to think there was never a good enough reason to terminate. But then I heard about that awful case in Ireland where the 13 year old girl was molested and made pregnant by an older man (can't remember if it was a relative) and the family took it to court so she could get a termination, and they refused her. From that moment on, I realised that no one should ever be able to tell a woman what she can and can't to do with her own body.

I have and I made the right decision. I was young and irresponsible and not sure I would have been a great mum to that child.

I now have a fabulous DH and DS and I spend everyday trying to be the best mum I can be. Unfortunately, DH and I have unexplained infertility which required us to go down the IVF path for DS and this current pg (I am 10.5 weeks). As a result of our IVF we don't / won't use contraception and if in the future a miracle happens, termination will absolutely not be an option (except in medical need).

I should add to my post that having a termination at 16 has made me a better mum now. It really made me think about what I want for my children when I have them and the type of life I'd want for them. I decided at 16 if I could not give my kids the life and family I thought they deserved then I'd never have them. ( and 15 years later I did feel I could and DD was born. )

Ok the Australian site I read limited the comment to first trimester.

Just to understand are you talking about risks of abortion vs developing a pregnancy related condition (eg gestational diabetes) that you only develop bec of the pregnancy?

From everything I have read in the past it includes any maternal death within 42 (?) days of birth that was not accidental? So it includes suicide, homicide as well as pregnancy only related complications. But you would have to check yourself sorry.
