    Default period pain

    Hi doctor,

    This might sound like an unusual question in this forum, but what do you recommend for period pain. I had op last year for sever endo on bowel wall and bladder my tubes are ok. have just come off the pill (had to skip my periods for 6 mnth) and have been advised to TTC ASAP so end doesn't get worse.

    First period off the pill and was in bed for 5 days I need to find something ( other than panedine fforte which I was taking before the op) as I don't know how long this will take and I can't keep having time off work.

    I have my fingers crossed that it will be really quick to conceive but worry about what to do in the interim. Also is there anything I can do to stop the endo getting worse whilst i TTC.

    Your help would be greatly appriciated.

    Hi there Emz83,
    Thanks for your questions. I am sure there are lots of other women in the forum that are really glad you asked!
    The pain of endometriosis can be very severe and I am sorry you are experiencing it. For helping to soothe the problem—reducing overall inflammation in the system is paramount and here are a few ways you can do that.

    1)Base your meals on vegetables and protein—avoid all junk food;

    2)Avoid all fried food;

    3)Ensure you drink at least 2L filtered water day to flush toxins out of your system;

    4)Nutrients such as calcium and particularly magnesium are essential for helping to reduce the inflammation. Dosage can be a very individual thing so be sure to seek the advice of a practitioner you trust about this.

    5)Fish oils are essential for reducing inflammation and pain. There is a product I often recommend—Metagenics’ Meta EPA/DHA liquid. The dose would be about 5ml 2xdaily which is a substantial dose, however in your case I believe you’d need it given how badly you are affected.

    6)Herbal medicines can also be extremely helpful; however you’d definitely need the advice of a naturopath or herbalist. In my clinic we specialise in women’s health and fertility and we’d be delighted to help.

    7)Castor oils packs are also easy to make and great to help reduce the pain of endometriosis. If you Google castor oil pack recipe you will find exactly what you are looking for.

    8)Finally, if you go onto my website you will find a recipe for the ‘Whole Lemon Drink’ which you can drink to really help support you in reducing the pain of inflammation.

    My very best wishes to you Emz83. Please keep me updated on your progress!
