    Default Chemical/Miscarriage TTC#2

    Hi,

My husband and I have a DD who is 26 months which we conceived 2nd cycle off the pill, we were very lucky.

This time round we have been trying to conceive baby 2 for the past 21 months, and not one single sign of any hope until last month when my period didnt come, did a PG test, it was positive so had a BT, HCG came back at 25 and then had a follow up BT a couple of days later and it had dropped to 12 along with spotting and 1 week later my period. We are guessing this is either a chemical pregnancy or a miscarriage?

My question is that after 21 months of trying, we finally get a bfp be it chemical or miscarriage.... is this now a step in the right direction and a sign that my body might now be ready to conceive again? We have done every test, semen analysis, progesterone monitoring, laparoscopy, tubal patency and everything has come back normal study. I ovulate nicely and have pretty much a normal cycle.

Also do you have a higher fertility after something like this happens?

    Thank you.

    Hello Craftymum,

    Thank you for your question!

In my experience this is most likely an early miscarriage. It’s wonderful that you have done all the suggested tests available to you. The great news also is that it does not sound like the doctors have found anything particularly concerning throughout these investigations in the last 21 months. This is very positive (although I understand you may not be feeling this way right now).

The fact that you have not yet, however managed to conceive again despite all the trying, indicates to me that there is something not quite right. Frequently in my clinic when I see patients in this situation there are specific lifestyle and immediate environmental exposures (from diet or other sources) often getting in the way of couples creating the baby of their dreams—hence their desire for a fresh approach.

Unfortunately I don’t believe this occurrence is necessarily linked with increased fertility despite your cycles being perfectly regular and ovulation happening as it should. I would be asking more questions regarding what are the specific puzzle pieces required to optimise you and your partner’s fertility to the best of your ability in order to fulfil your dream.

    I hope this helps!

    Warm regards,
    Gabriela Rosa
