    Default Looking for a Surrogate!

    Hi Everyone,

I am really unsure where to start my search and thought this may be a good place. I would appreciate any feedback or help in my search!

I am 30 years old and have been married for the past 3 years, however we have been together for 10 years now. We have the most beautiful little girl who is now 18 months and is the absolute apple of my eye.

From the beginning of my pregnancy I was quite sick which went right through my pregnancy and for the last 2 months, I was in and out of hospital. After having my little girl, I have had several operations to help my body to heal. My body is now beginning to feel a little normal again, however I still have problems. During this time, I suffered from several post natal depression which my husband and family have helped me through.

I come from such a close family who are my best friends and I cannot imagine not giving my little girl a brother or sister so that she can have that same kind of relationship that I have with my sister. She just adores other children and I would love to see if I can add to our happy family.

I am now unable to fall pregnant for quite a while, however I am wishing for a surrogate who can help my husband and I. We would like the child to have our own genetics though.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time!

    Shybo

Where are you located Shybo? Most states in Australia still don't look favourably upon surrogacy, so you could be in for a rocky road...

Have a look at the Surro Australia group on yahoo (I don't have the address, but if you search for it under the groups tab in Yahoo, you'll find it)....

From memory, gestational surrogacy is allowed in WA - just have to get through the ethics committees I think....good luck!

Shybo, I think the first thing the ethics committee will ask is why do you need a surro.

Be ready with all your records to show them exactly how life threatening a preg is for you / or how unlikely it is you will get pg.

WA has some proposals in parliament at the moment seeking to legislate and guide surrogacy agreements but I don't know exactly how far away they are.
Don't wait for them though. Creating the embies can be your first step, finding a surro another step, and getting it done according to the new laws can be another.

Thanks so much for the replies and the help!

mumof2brats - I dont believe it is legal to pay someone to be a surrogate, however if it is and that is the way it is done, then I have no problems with this. However it is not legal to pay someone, then I will be needing an angel!

bfkel - how do I find this ethics committee and contact them?

    Thanks Shybo

Shybo I'm not really understanding why you need a surrogate.

Ethics committees are part of IVF clinics.

Normally GS - gestional surrogacy is only done when there is risk of maternal life, when there is uterine issues or repeat failure at IVF (about 12 transfers or more).

From your post I am not really picking up on any of these issues.

To be honest an ethics committee won't even consider you unless it's something like this.

I would also make the assumption that if you 'aren't meant to fall pg' in the near future that an IVF cycle to make embryos could also create a number of issues.

I doubt that PND would be considered in the situation as a reason - particularly when you look at emotionally what a surro goes through.

mumof2brats in Australia is it is considered illegal to be seen/known to be paying a surrogate (please see how I refer to it being 'seen/known' IYKWIM!)

Thanks Jackie7 - thanks for your reply. As I am really unsure of where to go, I think starting with my GP will be the way at the moment, as I dont want to rule out any options so early in the game. But I will take your advise on board! Thanks so much! Shybo.

    Default the surrogate family

Shybo, I hope you found some answers.

I would like to chat to someone that has been through surrogacy as I have been approached by a family friend to be their 'oven'.
    bye bye
