so its been a while guys. sometimes i think coming in here to chat makes me feel really sad and i focus a bit on whats wrong with my son and rather than just seeing him as a little boy iykwim
so anyway weve been doing ok
big school has started and he going alright.few hiccups with him refusing to speak, refusing to participate etc
his teacher says his fine gross motor is pretty poor, his confidence is very low and his social skills are lacking- no suprises there. but she did say he is fitting in well and was suprised that it had been pushed on us a bit to consider autism specific schooling. however he hasnt had any outbursts at school yet so we will see how he goes
hope everyone is doing well sorry ive been so slack
bubba is crawling now little mr mischief

    Big hugs for us all!

Thanks for your kind words ladies, I'm still feeling so overwhelmed by it all. There are really moments when I sit back and watch DS and think that there is nothing wrong with him, that he is coping with the immediate situation very well, being quite social, but then there are the 'other' moments where I want to sit and scream and cry and pull my hair out because I feel like I've failed DS in not having taken better care of him in-utero because it's my 'fault' that there's something 'wrong' with him IYKWIM.. it's such an awful feeling to have

On a more positive note, DS started at his new daycare yesterday (well, when I say new .. he is now currently attending 2 days at one centre and 2 days at the new centre so I can study AND until we get a DX and then I will make an executive decision on where he goes FT)... there was an incident earlier on in the day where he bit someone because they were trying to take a toy off him but otherwise he had a really good day!! He was fascinated by Snappy the turtle and played well most of the day He ate all his lunch (lasagne) and even got an ice-cream cone for desert!

I am really happy that the new centre appreciates and understands his differences and that they have some strategies to try and help him which the other centres haven't even THOUGHT of (like teaching him signing so he can express himself when he loses his words instead of resorting to violent behaviour), and the staff are wonderful in their being able to intervene before something happens instead of intervening afterwards and chastising DS for something that he probably doesn't even remember!

All in all, I'm glad I found the new centre and our paed appt is next Thursday (DS 3rd birthday is also next week .. on Tuesday) so my schedule is full!

    Hi Ladies
I am so sorry I was down the other day. Things are not much better with Peter at school. Hope you are all well. Glad to hear the stories of children doing well.
Scrapmadmum2k I am so happy you were able to find some where else for him. It is not easy is it.
Kylie . Hope you are well I am thinking of you.
Kylie sorry to hear you are not having a good time either. How is Alex going with the melt downs he was having? is he still repeating the words over and over? I hope all is well on that front. I agree with the virtual holiday. I think the shopping trip needs a get away to fuji for a soak in the cool blue waters and having a relaxing massage and facial then relaxing by the beach in the shade for a little while. Then another dip for good measure! Then maybe fly in the private airplane to some where else for more shopping......clothes, jewelery, shoes etc.
Sounds good. Off to bed I go up early tomorrow. Take care all. Letitia.

Lol well I was bout to get all upset,. I thought you had forgotten me Letitia but I don't think you have, you've just called me Kylie!

Thank you for asking about me and Alex, well tonight was a shocker in the melt down department, he LOST the plot afterw e dropped Claudia at Brownie guides, it's a new thing she just started it and he's not used to how it works yet and didn't get why we were leaving ehr there, he screamed after Claudia all the way home and I couldn't calm him down int he end had to put him in his room and he still screamed for pretty much the hour til we had to pick her up again! SO over it, also lost it today when I took him off the computer, the bloody 'what happend, what happened etc etc" over and over, I CAN'T STAND IT, am starting to lose it myself I think. Not a good week. On the plus side he can actually woek the computer now and click the mouse, move the cursor, everything by himself so that's exciting! (He just turned 3 so i think that's pretty good?)

Have decided that he no longer has autism, am just going to tell myself he doesn't, tell everyone else he doesn't, tell him he doesn't and it will eventually all just go away. (Do you ever wish you were one of those parents who lived in blissful denial?????)

LOVE the facials idea, I'm having a deep tissue massage on my (virtual) holiday and a relaxing aromatherapy massage and some reflexology and a pedicure and foot rub! Then will lie by a pool overlooking New York and read books and sleep. Aaaaaaaaahhh....................

Don't ever apoloise Letitia for being down, just be yourself

Ladies, I think the wacky weather must have something to do with all of us having bad moods and cr*ppy weeks. As good a theory as any, hey.
Am loving the idea of a virtual holiday - thinking around the world for me. Want to go to Scotland, Canada, Bora Bora, so will have to do a world jaunt. Think of the shopping I could manage then.
Sara, Jock used to lose it when I dropped people off, now he pretty much only does it when he wants to stay somewhere. He got really freaked though, especially if we dropped Craig somewhere or he dropped me off, like at the shops or something. Lasted for a good 18 months or so then he get accustomed to the idea that we would come back. I try to mention these things in advance as much as possible so it was in his head already. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but it is all you can do.
God, I would love to live in denial..how do people manage that? Have a friend who's son is showing def signs of ASD (and they both have diagnosed nephews, so family history on both sides), and she is so trying to write it off as anything else. It is not having a good effect on her marriage, and I don't want to tell her that's what he has, but have been mentioning how similar to Jock he is. She just doesn't want to know...all I can do is keep encouraging her to see an OT for his hair obsession, in the hope that they will tell her he needs further testing. At least then she is getting the bad news from someone who's job it is and not me or her family. I don't know how she can keep writing off his behaviour though
Is Claudia enjoying Brownie guides? Matilda and Serena start guides on Tuesday with gf's daughter. They are very much looking forward to it.
Letitia, how do you manage working and everything else? I will probably have to go to work next year (if I can find anything to help out money wise because Craig will lose seagoing allowance and we will be tight. All the kids will be at school, but I am not sure how I will cope? Haven't worked in a long time, lol.
Scrapmadmum, good luck with the pead appointment next week. And for your DS as well. Will keep that the new day care works out better for you.
Hi Rosie. How is the gluten free going?
SMO3, Jock's school think he is lovely, cause as yet they haven't had any outburst either. I keep telling them it is only a matter of time....they have a social night tonight which I wasn't going to, but am considering it just so he might have a melt down for them. Is that bad or what?
Well, it is time to get everyone out the door for school. Hello to evryone I haven't mentioned personally, hope you all are well.
    Have a great day all.

    Hi Ladies
I am needing some time out in a big way. Around the world sounds nice Kylie. I would love to go to Scotland for real one day my DH has family and family friends there. All of his family was born there except him. The "Lie by a pool in New York read and sleep" sounds great Sara. I wish I could really do it. I must have been more tired then I thought when I typed my post last night. Yes Kylie it is hard and I only work part time. I already hate being back at work and I would say it could be one of the reasons Peter is unhappy at school. I have just had to go and get him because he was unsettled and ran away from the class. It is starting again and I can't wait for the paeds appointment on friday next week. I think I will cry in his office when he starts asking questions because I have had enough. Peter is more of a handful then he has every been. Annoyed at school as I think the new teacher at advancement is too soft and Peter is learning this. I dont know how you do it Kylie and I know you find it tough on your own but to be thinking about work is an even greater task for you. I think it may give you some time out but it is hard getting everyone ready to get out the door so you can get to work on time. It is hard to find a work place that is willing to except you maybe late some days depending on Jock. If he has a melt down before you leave and believe me Peter seems to know when it is 15 mins before leaving this is when he starts.
But it may be different for you.
Sara I hope things improve soon for you. I know what you mean about people blocking it out, I could not do that and I know a few parents that do .
Well ladies I sound bad again today and think I should get off here for now. Take care. Letitia.

We finally have internet!! We had to go without for a week, I discovered just how addicted I am.

I think that New York pool would be frozen over at this time of year girls!! I'd love to go to New York too. Forget the shopping, I'd wanna see all the art and have good food and go ice skating at Central Park, or a sleigh ride! That'd be cool.
Scotland is awesome. We lived in Edinburgh for 6 months and it was magnificent!
We lived in Canada too! In Vancouver, but it was still so cold. Vancouver has beautiful mountains. In the summer we used to swim in a lake outside town with mountains everywhere. Fantastic. I'm SO there!

I'd love to be in Italy. I've always wanted to go and drive along the coast there following the cliffs and stopping for gelati (have to wait a few months for that too) or to stay in an awe-inspiring hotel overlooking the cliffs.

    I like this game.

Sophie is okay. She's been much happier lately, but still tantrums quite a lot. The therapy is going pretty well. She's mastered all the academic stuff (we have a clever cookie!) and so we're working on play, communication, tolerance and socialisation. The biggest one is tolerance. When is she going to learn she cannot control everything!! She drives me crazy.

Nadia has a cold so is clingy and barely sleeps. poor thing. And just before the weekend too.

Hope you are all well. Let's hope we all see some real progress soon.

yeah you are right about NY right now- my bro actually proposed to my SIL in March on a buggy ride around Central park- was snowing and freezing apparently (but incredibly romantic!) Well you never see the Sex in the City girls freezing their bums off though, do you? Maybe we'll do the snow thing in New York then head somewhere warmer but not too hot, I don't like heat! Italy sounds fab, would love to go. Paris too just to say I'd been there but would feel way inferior to the sophisticated french.

to all of you, glad Sophie is going well that is encouraging! That sucks about peter and school though letitia, i would cry in the paeds office too. :-(

I know what you mean about inducing the melt down Kylie, oh well great that they think he is lovely for not though, shows he can be!

Rosie let us know how the gluten intro goes.

Well I am in a GREAT mood as I am going out with some girlfriends tonight for dinner and a movie, can't wait, Matt will have the kids Have to go and cook their dinner first, have already cooked banana cake and allergy free banana cakes oh well at least I'm getting OUTTA HERE soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope all you guys are having ok nights as well xxx
