    Question water smells funny? fluoride?

    Hi,
Just returned from holidays and have found that our water smells funny - kind of a grassy smell - was wondering if its the addition of fluoride thats causing the odd smell... has anyone else in Brissy noticed this?

    YES YES YES!!!! I have!!!

I was just about to do a post on it myself.

I was thinking it was the fluroride too...

Doesn't it taste weird! Like it's got dirt in it or something. It tastes the way the air smells before it rains. (that's what I think anyway)

I'm sure we'll get used to it but... yukk!

Maybe it's cause of a change in the chemical levels in the water since we've had more rain to fill our catchments?

Oh my goodness I can't believe I am not the only one!!!! I thought I was going crazy or the pipes to our house have gone bad or something but the water tastes like dirt! I was like I am sure it didn't taste like that a couple of months ago.

I also thought it could be the rain mixing up the water or something & making it taste like dirt.

I considered the fluride but thought surely that wouldn't make it taste bad. I for some reason thought fluoride might taste a bit minty or something like toothpaste - gosh I am silly.

My dad went out & bought a carton of bottled water 'cause I complained about it so much

    I have noticed this to.
It has been since the day they added the fluoride here. I filter my water but the fluoride taste wont go away. We buy fluoride free water now, it is SOOO yummy.

I just tasted it properly (I don't normally take notice of the taste when drinking it... I drink cause I'm thirsty and couldn't care less... comes from growing up out bush I guess)

Anyway, there is a taste difference. I can't taste the chlorine. Normally I can. I can taste that earthy taste you guys are talking about but I must be special cause I don't find it unpleasent.

Maybe we're just due for a chlorine dump soon.

I heard on 4BH the other day that it had something to do with a dam overflowing on the Gold Coast. Some of Brisbane's water is pumped up from there, and when the dam got really full, there was run off from the surrounding ground, dirtying up the water and producing the taste/smell. The man said it was an overload of manganese?

Apparently it's perfectly safe to drink though.

I normally scull water & didn't really think I tasted it but since this change the terrible taste just comes through. I just had another drink of it due to this thread & I reckon I could get used to it tho, knowing now that it's fluride & not corrupted pipes or something.

Yep it's been mentioned on the news a bit in the last few days.
All the storms and the dams being full have stirred up all the sediment.

It's safe to drink - smells and tastes a bit like river water though blech.
