• Photography enthusiasts ... chat & share thread :)

I love taking photos, I'm still very much in the learning phase and would love to chat with others who enjoy mucking around with their cameras

After we upgraded our camera to a DSLR I thought I should really understand how to get the best out of the camera. Off I went to attend a fundamentals course, then my first workshop (city lights) and now I'm well and truly hooked!

I'm always keen to learn more, share ideas and I love looking others photos. So ... who wants to join me in a chat thread?

For sure. I love taking photos. Mainly of my kids tough. I want to get into wildlife photography, but dont have the spare $17,000 for the lens, and animals dont sit still

Pick me!! I love photography and love to photograph our rural life - kids, animals, nature, landscapes. I'm very much a hobbyist and find photography courses and forums really intimidating!

I've tried to get my old dog to just sit still and have had no luck, not sure how I'm going to go with the wildlife ... lol.

I've only got the kit lenses, but I have been dropping huge hints at my DH about a wide angle lens for birthday/christmas/mothers day

I joined a photography forum but felt extremely intimidated ... so thought I'd start a thread in a nice safe forum

I was very lucky and found a fantastic couple of photographers that welcome all the newbies and run great classes and workshops. Talked them into coming to my hometown to run some workshops, can't wait!

Kit lenses are great! Some of my all time favourite shots have been taken with my kit lenses.

A picture from the first workshop I attended ... City Lights Walk. This picture of the Treasury Casino (lit up pink for International Womens Day) was taken with a Canon 700D using a borrowed Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens. I can't remember the exposure length

I have only recently got into photography but am really enjoying it. We live on the beach so I love heading down there with just the camera and getting some chill out time. Those times are rare though so I mainly muck around with my daughter. Had so much fun doing her newborn shoot (only because I refused to pay $500 (mates rates) for someone else too. Haha).

Awesome shot! I'm so jealous because I just don't know how to night shoot.

These two were taken yesterday and the day before with my Canon 450D and my 24-70mm lens. I edited in photoscape (free download - can't figure out photoshop etc...)

                    Three kids -sooo bloody hard!

Lovely misskittyfantastico ... love the raindrops on the leaves as for getting three kids together in a great pic ... well done! I do not have nice pic of my three together, one always 'objects' to being photographed with his/her siblings ... lol.

I had no idea how to take night photos until I did the workshop. I'm really loving the sunset photos and been taking heaps of sunset photos lately.

Next workshop is a sunrise at the beach

Heading up to the beach for Sunrise in the morning - hoping for a nice one!!!

I shoot Pentax and their forum is amazing!!!! So much kindness and support on there as well as helpful and respectful constructive criticism.

My favourite way to learn is to look at photos taken with the same or similar camera and lenses as mine (which is where the Pentax forum comes in handy) and see what camera settings they've used as well as their environment - tripod, filter, time of day, time of year etc and any post-processing. Flickr is also awesome for that.

Lonely Planet's Travel Photography book is my favourite book to learn from and I also have a subscription to a photography mag on my iPad (much cheaper than buying actual magazines).

Tripod and a ND filter is all you need

I have never been able to get the night shots right. Have no idea what I do wrong but it just doesn't seem to work.

Here are some of the newborn photos I took of dd. Will post some landscape ones when I find them.
