  • 9 eggs fertilised 1 blastocyst??!

I had 11 eggs fertilised 9 were on track at day 2. We are now at day 5 and only 1 has made it to blastocyst and been frozen. This can't be good. Anyone else not had many to make it to blastocyst stage? And was is the reason? Bad egg quality? I'm 31 years old....

I'm 40 and had 2 make it to blast from 11 eggs collected - 7 fertilised. This is normal. Usually 70% fertilise and then only 20% make it to blast.

Therefore know that going to day 5 they expect to lose at least 80%. It is a real challenge to make it to day 5 and they really have scooped the cream off the top by using that technique.

Twosouls, I've always had good egg retrieval rate, between 12 and 16, but I have only had one make it to freezing. So first round only 1 on day 5 for transfer and 2nd round there were 2 left and we transferred one and froze the other. I am 32. The doctor told me this is not a great result but its not abnormal. I think about 80% is right that don't make it. Good luck!

Thanks guys. Ill ask the lab about it today. They all made it to day 5 but only 1 got to blastocyst stage. She was going to give the others and extra day in case they catch up and let me know. 3 of them did come from frozen eggs so I suppose it's not supposing they didn't make it

            Hey two souls,

I am a 22 year old healthy egg donor who had 22 eggs collected last cycle, 20 fertilized and we had 14 left day 3 and then only 2 blastocysts and one morula. Fertility specialist said it was a pretty good result even tho I was pretty dissapointed. Apparently it's just a numbers game, we were told about an 80% loss to day 5.

I think it's so individual. I had 6 eggs and 5 fertilised and were looking really good at Day 2. By Day 5 I only had 1 left and it was "almost a blast". I'm now 6 weeks pregnant, so it really does take just one

Thanks for all your encouraging words. The lab called and another one has grown to a blastocyst. It came from a frozen egg, they were impressed with that. She said its normal to have so few little make it to the blastocyst. She explained you only normally produce one good egg to release so to get more than one to a high grade is hard. And then to get them to freezer stage is the next level up.

With my first cycle we had 11 eggs collected and 4 made it. With my second cycle we had 7 collected and 2 made it.

With the new solution all clinics are now using the success rate has increased. I'm cycling again later in the year so it will be interesting to see how my eggs go.
