  • Best schools on the Gold Coast?

    Hi everyone,
We are moving to the Gold Coast, hubby's job is located in Varsity Lakes. We have two children in Grade 1 & the other due to start Prep next year.
Looking for recommendations for primary schools please? (preferably public at this stage although will consider private) We will also need to think ahead & consider high school too. Any feedback on schools appreciated!

    Thank you

Most public schools on the Gold Coast are now zoned and you need to live in a specific area to go to that public school or put your name on a wait list to get into a school that is not in your zoned area.

      This.
Depending on where you live the local public schools are in catchment areas.
Varsity is a great school if you're looking in that area.
      Also clover hill and mudgeeraba.
      Robina too.
Private schools are pretty good... Emmanuel (in carrara)... All Saints.
St andrews is a great school.

All Saints, Somerset. Both private though. Emmanuel would depend on how religious you are IMO.

I went to Caningeraba which is in burleigh waters, just over Bermuda street from varsity.
My eldest started school at Marymount which is a catholic school. I can't speak more highly of it! If I was still in qld, I would send all 4 of my girls there.

            Thank you everyone.
Some great recommendations, which I will look into.

My husband's workplace will now be located in Molendinar.

So should we be focusing on schools (& settling) at the northern end of the GC? Not too sure about the commute for hubby.

I know this thread is old, though you say next year, and it's 2016 still, so I presume your still deciding for next year?
I graduated year 12 in 2015 so maybe I can provide what it's like on the students side, I was a public school boy I didn't go to private and I am really thankful for that.
I spent most of my time at Miami state school and Miami high, primarily because I am deaf and they are both the designated schools for the gold coast, I was mostly in normal classes and it was great! The teachers were awesome if you asked for help they were happy to help and often happy to meet me in the library after school to help and tutor me if I asked for it.

I know Varsity is awesome too, I know some guys that went to Varsity state then Varsity high and loved it.

I know some guys that went to private schools, Marymount, Kings, Sommerset AB paterson, etc they all have fairly dim views of the schools they went to. Even if private is slightly better (which I don't think it is) I don't think it is, my own son will being going to the local state school here, I see no reason for private while I respect people that send their kids to private, my own opinion simply is that it's an epic waste of money.
