Family ski trip packing checklist

Family of five playing in the snow on holidayEver been to the snow? It’s an awesome experience – especially for little kids.

Going on a ski trip can be a lot of fun for families, especially when you live somewhere as hot as Australia. Wherever you are going – any day of the week – it is all-important that you have everything you need. Even going to the shops can be a disaster if you forget something you need.

We’ve compiled a family ski trip packing checklist to help ease your load a little when planning for that much-deserved trip away. Here is a ski trip packing checklist of what to remember on your snow holiday. Most of the items on this list will apply whether you’ll be hitting the slopes or just visiting a snowy place.

General for Everyone

  • Thermal clothes:
    • Underwear
    • Undershirts
    • Leggings
    • Socks
  • Everyday shirts

  • Jeans/long pants
  • Sunscreen – with at least SPF 30, UVA and UVB protection
  • Camera – waterproof or with waterproof case
  • First aid kit
  • Lip balm – the cold and wind can hurt if you’re on the slopes
  • Toiletries – everything from soap to razors
  • Electronics – whatever you might want to take to keep the kids (or yourself) entertained – and map apps are great for foreign places
  • Ski gear:
    • Waterproof outer pants (may be hireable, check with specific location)
    • Waterproof outer jacket (may be hireable, check with specific location)
    • Waterproof gloves (not hireable)
    • Glove inners (worn inside of ski gloves, not hireable)
    • Goggles (not hireable)
    • Neck warmer (not hireable)
  • Ski equipment:
    • Skis (hireable)
    • Snowboard (hireable)
    • Ski poles (hireable)
    • Ski/Snowboard boots (hireable)
  • Rules: set specific rules your kids (and you) need to follow before you go and make sure they’re adhered to the whole time

Specifically Babies

  • Baby sunscreen – usually a stronger SPF and gentle on baby skin.
  • Thermal onesies
  • Nappies
  • Nappy changing necessities
  • Feeding necessities
  • Baby carrier
  • Toys – nothing that will perish if you want to take it into the snow

Specifically Kids

  • Sunglasses: should be 100% UV protected (UV400)
  • Toys: nothing that will perish if you want to take it into the snow
  • Books – for both reading and writing
  • Writing implements – pencils, eraser, pens, etc.
  • Potty – if you’re in the toilet-training stage, though not ideal when you’re on the slopes
  • A good knowledge of snow safety – make sure you’re all prepared for everything.

There will always be extras that you will add to the list for your individual needs or wants – but this ski trip packing checklist will help you get the main things down pat. You never want to find yourself on holidays in negative degree weather having forgotten your thermals!
