Independent midwives provide private care for expectant mothers - everything from ante-natal visits, through the birth itself, particularly for homebirths, and post-natal care. If your pregnancy is considered high risk you may be referred to an obstetrician for some specialist care.
You can also employ a private midwife for additional services such as...
- preconception health (preparation for pregnancy)
- all medical ante-natal care
- childbirth education
- well-being during pregnancy, such as nutrition, exercise, support
- information on birthing options and the effects of any drugs which may be used in labour
- expectations/anxieties
- postnatal care for both mother and child, including infant feeding and settling
- lactation consultants, providing specialised support for mothers, with breastfeeding
