In the listings below, we have indicated whether a facility accepts private or public patients or both. To read about pregnancy & childbirth care options in more depth, view our childbirth options page.

midwife managed birthing centres
'Birthing centres' provide for more natural 'at-home' style ante-natal care, labour & birth. Managed by midwives, the philosophy is to have minimal use of pain-relieving drugs during the birth. Centres are located within hospitals so that more intensive medical care is immediately available should an emergency arise. We have identified in the hospital listing below which hospitals currently have birthing centres and have also provided a separate list here. Places are limited and are only available to pregnancies considered low risk. Early enrollment is advised.

The BFHI symbol after some hospitals within our listings below indicates that the hospital has been accredited by the Baby Friendly Health Initiative.
