Mountain Buggy Terrain

I have used a Mountain Buggy Terrain for over 2 years, with two children. We plan to use it for a few more years and for maybe our no 3. It has been superb! There were a number of factors that I consider to be advantageous:

  • Weight : 9.5 kgs

  • Very sturdy and easy to push over rough ground, sand & bark chips. This is due to its fixed front wheels.

  • Extremely durable. We used our mountain buggy for 4 months while travelling on buses and trains in Malaysia and Thailand. (The fixed front wheels were essential on the non existent pavements)

  • Glides nicely in a straight line with minimal effort

  • Easy to wash and clean (with no fading)

  • Great up and down steps.

  • Basket size seems small, but it is a rigid cage and it is amazing how many things you can get in it.

  • The handle is one long bar making it very easy to direct with one hand. (I don't believe that buggy handles are designed for hanging shopping baskets as they tip over so easily.)

  • Comfortable and supportive, from birth to 30+kgs

  • No real possibility of older children getting their legs caught at the front.

  • 5 point harness that is impossible for little hands to undo or climb out of. (I only used the 3 point lower harness when they were tiny babies)

  • This buggy also has an adapter for carrying the cocoon type baby carseat (the European/uk versions) that are only just starting to be sold here, and that is a huge advantage during the frist 3 months when the baby seat can be moved with sleeping baby from the house to the car to the shops to the car to the house without disturbing them!

Now the critisisms....

  • Cannot put it down with one hand. This was my biggest problem.

  • Quite wide and only folds flatish. It maybe too big for a small car boot. You can remove the wheels easily.

  • You can get punctures if you use the buggy where there are sharp rocks and glass. New Mountain buggies now come with a pump.

  • There is no coffee cup holder (a complaint from my husband)

The Mountain Buggy Terrain is a great all rounder and fanastic for the beach and out door activites. If you just use a buggy for shopping trips inside shopping centres, then this is not the right choice. We did purchase a Maclaren "umbrella" buggy (also very good) as a 2nd buggy recently instead of getting a double buggy, but although it is lighter and more compact we still prefer the mountain buggy.
