Overview:

The Bertini X5 Classic is a big pram, essentially being a modernised and upgraded version of the Bidwell.

When combined with the optional bassinette, it echoes one of the old fashioned prams you could imagine being pushed through an English park by a nanny resembling Mary Poppins!

However, with the standard seat -which Bertini refer to as a 'gliding seat'- it is a modern-day equivalent with all the comfort advantages of the old-style pram, combined with modern functions and good looks.

The four-wheel design makes it extremely stable, and the four-wheel steering makes it quite maneuverable for a pram of this size, although you'll need some practice when reversing! Luckily the steering can be locked with a tip of the footpedal if required.

The seat is fully adjustable from flat to upright, and can be positioned facing forwards or backwards. Swapping direction is a simple matter of pressing two clips and lifting off the seat. There is a 5-point harness with the two adjustable shoulder straps easily moved as the child grows from birth through to about 3 years. The only complaint about the harness is that the centre crotch strap is poorly positioned too far towards the front of the pram, meaning the child can slump. Looking underneath the seat, it appears as though the strap can be repositioned, however there is no provision for this in the material of the seatcover. This diminishes an otherwise excellent seat and harness system.

The seat includes a built-in sunshade, which can be folded completely out of the way or brought down to provide full shade. There's a covered mesh 'window' in the top so you can easily look in on bub if the shade is closed.

The X5 chassis includes a large shopping basket under the seat which can easily accomodate 2-4 shopping bags of groceries. The basket also contains a pump should any of the tyres require inflation.

The pram folds easily, but is still rather large and would really only be suitable for a wagon or large sedan. It is awkward to lift, especially for a smaller person.

Accessories:

There is a long list of accessories available for this pram. It is part of the standard Bertini 'X' range, and compatible with all accessories for that series.

The standard seat can be swapped for a bassinette, which can also be positioned on the chassis facing forwards or backwards.

A stand is available which is an ideal combination for the bassinette, which can be lifted off the pram and clipped straight on to the stand, making it a great solution for those bubs who need a walk to get them to sleep but don't transfer into their basinette afterwards.

The seat can also be attached to the stand, and combined with a clip-on table for use as a high chair.

A rain cover, foot bag/enclosure and safety bar are included with the pram.

Pros:
  • Big, pneumatic wheels combined with suspension make it great for rough roads and footpaths.
  • Very good quality materials and construction.
  • Very stable
  • Large range of accessories
Cons:
  • It's big and heavy
  • The centre strap of the 5-point harness is poorly positioned and not easily adjustable.
Conclusion:

A great quality pram, but not suitable for everyone. If you like long walks, have a big car (or rarely need to transport the pram), then it is ideal and the quality is hard to beat.
