This baby monitor picks up sound quite well, may even be too sensitive, but there is an option to mute low sounds, that way you will generally only hear if bub whinges or cries. This is especially helpful if you have a creaky/noisy house.
Thelight on it is great, and so too are the musical options to help soothe bub.
In terms of how far away you can be, it is hard for me to tell as we live in a semi-detached house, so it's quite narrow. But bub can be in the room at the front of the house and I can put it in the kitchen window (back of house) and be working in the yard, and still hear if my bub wakes or grizzles.
