We were recently invited to a friends daughters birthday party at the Darling Downs Zoo. I had heard mixed reviews of it so tried to go with an open mind.
We had over a two hour drive to it but enjoyed the scenery along the way. Our children were excited to see the animals and the drive went fast. The directions were easy to follow and we found the zoo with no worries.
We were greeted with a smiling face and given a map of the zoo with times of the animal talks. Price of admission was reasonable and our son was free (under three). There was also some animal food for purchase for some of the exhibits.
The set out was good, one big loop around and each of the animal talks were on as you walked around the zoo clockwise. This was great as we were able to catch them all on our way around. I would guess it took us about an hour and a half to make our way around, of course you could do it quicker but you could also take your time and make it longer.
The animals were all in well kept enclosers and were quite close to the paths which made for great viewing of them. I was surprised with the varied animals.
The children had an absolute ball! They could run and jump as much as they pleased with no huge fancy garden beds to worry about them crashing through, the whole zoo is fenced off from the entrance and carpark so no worries about traffic. We stayed for a sausage sizzle that is held daily at 12pm and bought cold drinks and ice-creams from the kiosk.
As we left the children choose a souvenir and I was very happy with the amount their could choose from and the prices overall were great.
We will definitely going again.
