I bought this and this only and have no regrets whatsoever.

I only pump once a day, but I used to pump every feed of the day when my baby couldn't latch on properly. Once you get used to it, it is extremely comfortable. It doesn't leak at all, and is very efficient. I empty each side of my breast in 10 minutes thereabouts. Sometimes my nipples are sore because my son's a chomper, but after expressing and using this pump, they often feel much better! Not sure why, maybe because it aligns and straightens the nipples?

It is also very quiet and easy to wash and sterilize. Handy for travel, and doesn't require any batteries (huge savings there). I've used the Medela Symphony in the hospital, with double pumps, but often I find they tend to take a much longer time. I usually just take my Harmony and sit in front of the TV and pump away - lot quicker and gets your arms into shape too!

Hania
Medela electric vs Isis manual comparison

I have used both the manual Isis and electric Medela pumps and would recommend the Isis:

  • The manual pump is quicker - I get more milk in half the time. This is because I can control the pumping (usually just depress and hold) and the let down is a lot quicker.
  • The manual pump is quieter
  • The Isis pad for the breast makes it really comfortable. It squeezes the aeorola like a baby, unlike the medela which (painfully) pulls the nipple
  • It's much easier to use as you don't need a power source and don't need to carry around a bulky backpack(I never tried the battery option but 10 AA batteries would get pretty pricey!)
  • Heaps cheaper!
  • I didn't get any hand cramps with the manual, but I did get back ache with the electric as the location of the powerpoint in the bathroom at work meant I had to put the compressor on the floor and the tubes are too short for me to stand up straight (I am 5'5", 165cm)
I have been expressing up to 4 times daily for almost a year now.

Better than mini electric

I bought this after trying a Medela Mini Electric - I found the rhythm and suction just didn't suit, and I couldn't find a silicone breastshield attachment anywhere.

It's pretty simple, it has two pumping phases, one to get the milk going then a stronger pull once it's all happening. I like the flexibility of changing rhythm and suction strength as needed when expressing. That said I am only using it to express once every one or two days to add to solids for my bub. I like that it is quiet (the electric was sooo noisy) and I think the action is better too, much gentler, and the silicone breastshield which is standard on this model gives a good seal and is comfortable.

For sterilising I just throw all the appropriate bits into a pan of boiling water on the stove.

Suits my needs really well, I could get a lot more than I do but I really don't need it at the moment.
