I received a copy of Georgia Madden's Confessions of a Once Fashionable Mum to review and it came just at the right time. I was looking for a light-hearted read after just finishing a series of six gloomy novels that I'd read one after another.
This provided me with the perfect alternative. It is a light and quick read with easily identifiable characters and a sprinkling of sharp-tongued wit.
The story revolves around Fashion PR executive Ally Bloom and her post-baby life ... which isn't going the way she planned. Her marriage is showing some cracks, her mother-in-law has come to stay and she's not exactly the happy yummy mummy she imagined she'd be.
She reluctantly joins a mothers group and attempts to embrace her inner earth mother. This too doesn't go exactly as planned but along the way Ally does manage to embrace something even more important.
A funny reminder that parenthood rarely goes to plan!
